The numbers: The U.S. trade deficit in goods widened to a seasonally adjusted $76.0 billion, according to a preliminary report out Thursday from the Census Bureau. That figure excludes services.
What happened: Exports rose 1.8%, or $2.5 billion, while imports rose 1.5%, or $3.1 billion. Economists had forecast a deficit of $76.2 billion.

Typical MW, you have to read the details to see that our exports rose at a higher percentage than our imports.

Sorry, not a surplus. But it is a growh in exports faster than a growth in imports.

We are currently running a MASSIVE trade deficit with China.
The largest bilateral trade deficit, which any country has ever, ever run with another country, in all of recorded history.

There is no surplus... We still import far more than we export, but the gap closed some.
