On Friday, NBC announced that Megyn Kellys morning talk show, Megyn Kelly Today, had been cancelled. This happened to her as The New York Times put it for wondering aloud on-air why it was inappropriate for white people to dress up (on Halloween) in blackface.
I was sad to see the Peacock Network cancel her show the way they did for two reasons. The first is because I believe Megyn Kelly deserved better. If NBC was unhappy with her ratings, they should have ended her contact for that reason; not because of a relatively minor controversy caused by an insensitive comment.
From what I read, no one demanded her departure. The day after her blackface comment, her studio audience (including many people of color), gave her a standing ovation for offering a heartfelt apology, and The New York Times reported that A question-and-answer session (that followed that apology) went well. None of the 150 attendees, many of whom were regulars at Megyn Kelly Today tapings, criticized the host for her remarks, and several offered support.
Megyn Kelly gave up a lot when she left Fox News, and although she put her foot in her mouth more than once at NBC (what talk show host hasnt?), she still gave them everything they asked from her and more. At the very least she deserved the chance to say goodbye to her millions of loyal viewers. Instead, she was coldly dismissed under a shroud of controversy while the Internet labeled her a racist.
Kelly’s time has expired. She was way overrated.
I was going to read this, but then I realized I don’t give a crap.
She really is a puzzle...did she actually believe that her FOX audience would follow her to NBC?
I understand egos are YUGE in the media industrial industry, but surely she is smart enough to have realized that her success was due to loyal FOX viewers first, and Kelly second, or third.
She had terribly ratings at NBC; she lost her FOX support and it was only a matter of time until she got the much deserved boot.
I think Laz would approve.
Yeah, Trump Curse in action.
Poor gamble on NBC’s part. They were just looking for the smallest reason to let her go.
I still think the network and her planned this together. It was just barely offensive enough to a handful of PC people but also enough to give the network a reason.
I still don’t think she said anything wrong; just not PC. PC is toxic.
She’s walking away with something like $68 million, I read. she’ll still be unhappy.
“Megyn Kelly gave up a lot when she left Fox News...”
She also got what...20 mil?my heart bleeds. Her, Wiehl, and Carlson are all goldiggers of the lowest scum.
Meghan Kelly, the token Rodeo Clown of NBC.
Cry me a river!
I never watched much of her show on Fox , and likewise (Never) on NBC.
I did see how she treated Trump in the Debates. Bad.
Once someone/or something goes toxic(?).....It’s usually...Game over.
What I can't understand is what could possibly be so enticing that someone who just made $69 MILLION for an insignificant two years that amounted to nothing of benefit for anyone but her would choose to seek more time in front of a camera rather than take that fortune and go enjoy her life and her family.
Some peeps apparently march to the beat of a different drum.
To add to the point you made, I think that this period of her national media prominence is over. I think that working as a personal assistant for Lazamataz is the best path to her redemption. She will have to share her millions, that is a bare necessity, but just think how this could be the path back to true worth for her.
Laz is a truly generous guy. He would open his home and heart to her if she is sincere and loving, I have little doubt about this. There will, however, be a certain period of proving herself that she will have to go through.
The only question is, can Laz find the time in his demanding schedule?
She is an example of overreaching on her end, and desperation on the side of NBC.
She should be happy she is getting a big check.
“”I did see how she treated Trump in the Debates. Bad.””
That was such a “to do about nothing”. She asked a question - big deal. Everyone - including most FReepers - jumped on the bandwagon to condemn her. The media made a big deal out of it and it wasn’t to slam her - it was to slam the candidate and it worked. Totally unnecessary.
But, blacks guys doing white face for a movie isn't racist nor promoting racial stereotypes -- ri-ight...
Let's ask Al what he thinks...
