Ten simple changes to help save the planet
BBC "News" ^ | November 5, 2018 | By Diego Arguedas Ortiz

It’s settled science that climate change is real.

So we don’t need to ask whether climate change is happening – or whether humans are causing it. Instead, we need to ask: “what can we do?”

What can you do that will have the biggest impact? Here’s our guide.

1. What is the single most important thing humanity has to do in the coming years – and what does that mean for me?

The number one goal? Limiting the use of fossil fuels such as oil, carbon and natural gas and replacing them with renewable and cleaner sources of energy

3. Other than that, what’s the best daily action I can take?

One 2017 study co-authored by Lund University’s Nicholas ranked 148 individual actions on climate change according to their impact. Going car-free was the number-one most effective action an individual could take (except not having kids – but more on that on that later). Cars are more polluting compared to other means of transportation like walking, biking or using public transport.

5. Could I make a difference by changing my diet?

That’s a big one, too. In fact, after fossil fuels, the food industry – and in particular the meat and dairy sector – is one of the most important contributors to climate change.

8. Should I think about how many children I have (or don’t have)?

Nicholas’s study concluded that having fewer children is the best way to reduce your contribution to climate change, with almost 60 tonnes of CO2 avoided per year. But this result has been contentious – and it leads to other questions.

One is whether you are responsible for children’s climate emissions, and the other is where are these babies born.

Basically, become a vegetarian, don’t drive a car, live without air conditioning and keep your heat close to freezing in the winter. Oh, and don’t reproduce. In essence, live a miserable existence and then die without kids so your family tree ends. What’s the assumption? That your house will revert to nature? More likely it will be taken over by some third world immigrant with 10 kids who doesn’t adhere to the BBC’s ten simple changes to save the planet.

At one time:

There was a glacier a mile thick above the location of NYC.

At another time:

There were tropical rain forests and alligators in Alaska.

******

So we don’t need to ask whether climate change is happening – or whether humans are causing it. Instead, we need to ask: “what can we do?”

Lost me on the first sentence - that said, plant trees in urban heat sink centers... and along interstates and city streets.

Save the planet.

What a noble goal.

These must be the best people ever.

And all we have to do to help these heroes is just implement several key items of the American Left’s agenda.

What a bargain everyone!

Take my money!

Big progressive government consumes much but produces no goods. They not only consume vast amounts of resources unproductively they also cause people to have to consume more energy themselves to make up for what is taken from them by force to pay for big government. So it’s a double whammy.

Save the world: get rid of progressivism and the nanny state.

Galileo questioned “settled science.” Newton questioned “settled science.” Einstein questioned “settled science.” And don’t tell me scientists can’t be corrupted by political, ideological or monetary considerations.

It’s settled science that climate change is real.

No, that isn't science at all. That is a truism. A truism is a statement that goes without saying, but you say it anyway. You might as well say, with the philosopher of old, that "the only thing that is permanent, is change."

Of course climate change is real. Since we are still emerging from the Ice Age, it ought to be changing.

I guess that giving billions in our taxes to socialists in Paris is the only solution. It is the planet after all.

Consequence of the philosophy “truth is subjective”.
You decide “your truth”, persuade/compel others to express the same view, and - viola! truth!

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”— H. L. Mencken

In the ancient days, when floods, droughts, plagues came, the priests would declare that the people had “offended the gods” and must sacrifice their children to appease the gods and prevent new disasters befalling them.

Today when a hot, cold, snowy, drought or storms hit, those that consider themselves “in the know”, say we are destroying the planet and must abort our children to placate mother Gaia.

And people still fall for it.
