Charitable Giving by Nations

Macron's comments about nationalism:

“Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism. Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism. By saying our interests first ... we erase what a nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what gives it grace, and what is essential: its moral values."

Macron's premise seems to be that loving one's nation and putting its interests first is somehow synonymous with selfishly turning ones back on the rest of the world. Arguably, charitable giving is a valuable index of how much a nation and its people care about the rest of the world.

Macron's comments about nationalism suggested that dedication to ones nation, and caring about the world, are somehow incompatible. The United States has been, adjusted per capita, one of the most giving and charitable nations in the world - in the top four for many years, and often number one. France, on the other hand, ranked #72 in the world according to the CAF International report for 2018.

Never let the left control the narrative. Truth first.

Did they include the US paying for it’s own defense, and also the gift of defending the rest of the nearly free world, and patrolling the seas to protect free shipping?

Nope, and that is a good point. Despite that, we are still always among the top nations, if not the top nation in charitable giving - while we get chastised by countries like France - who are not nearly as charitable (France ranked 72 on the list on the latest assessment).
