Cummings urges Dems to vote for Pelosi as Speaker, avoid ‘self-destructive’ battle

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) is urging fellow Democrats in the House to support House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) bid for Speaker, writing in a note to colleagues that not doing so could result in "a self-destructive leadership battle."

Cummings writes in the note, which was obtained by Politico, that new Democratic members of the House "should not be pressured into voting against our party’s nominee."

"That will only play into the hands of House Republicans and President Trump. Our new members promised their constituents to bring stability and common-sense to a dysfunctional Washington — not to be drawn into an effort to throw the House into chaos," he writes.

"Our new members promised to get results on the issues their constituents care about — not to delay these efforts while they are dragged into a self-destructive leadership battle," he adds.

Cummings also writes in the letter that Democrats need Pelosi's "experience and effectiveness more than ever," dismissing the idea that she has been the party's leader in the House for too long.

"Some have suggested that Nancy Pelosi has been our leader for too long. But most House Democrats have never served in the majority, and only a handful have ever chaired a full committee. At this moment, we need her experience and effectiveness more than ever," he writes.

Pelosi last week officially launched her bid to be the next Speaker, and she has said she is confident that she will get the necessary votes.

But there remains a group of Democratic lawmakers who either haven't said whether they will support Pelosi's bid or have come out against her.

Rep.-elect Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.), for example, said Monday that she won't vote for Pelosi.

"I have been talking about how important it is we have new leadership in Congress right now," Sherrill said on MSNBC. "And so I won’t be voting for Nancy Pelosi."

This could be the silver lining from this past election. Pelosi should retire and go home. But she won’t.

“That will only play into the hands of House Republicans and President Trump.”

In other words let’s stay together so we can destroy Pres. Trump and continue our path to a global government...with us in charge of course.

And it begins

She may be addled. She may have way too much botox. But the one thing that’s solid is she knows where the skeletons are

If they don’t vote for Pelosi the party may tip over and capsize.

Our new members promised their constituents to bring stability and common-sense to a dysfunctional Washington — not to be drawn into...

In that case should they not vote against Pelosi?

With Trump's HISTORIC record of success in his short 2 years as POTUS, I do NOT believe the American people chose to PUT THE DEMONRATS IN CHARGE OF THE HOUSE.

Either there was MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD COMMITTED BY VARIOUS DEMONRAT GROUPS, or the numbers of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT VOTERS is far worse than any of us had anticipated.

Trump's FIRM stance on the Caravan was a STRONG motivator for ILLEGALS to cast votes in this election. PERHAPS THAT WAS THE INTENT OF THE CARAVAN ALL ALONG.

We are ONE STEP CLOSER TO CIVIL WAR.. ALL OF OUR VOTES HAVE BEEN DISENFRANCHISED. 200 years ago, THE BULLETS WOULD'VE STARTED FLYING ALREADY!!!

If those Democrats who won Republican seats and promised not to vote for Pelosi vote for her, they will be one-term Representatives.

I just hope The House Republicans vote in Jim Jordan so he’s positioned to be Speaker in 26 months.

You're more charitable than I am. I think the same folks who voted for the likes of Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow first term travelers, have no idea who Nancy Pelosi is and think the Speaker of the House is that Alexa thing you tell to play your music.

Partner, Cummings is correct in that the DemonRat party will do very well in voting for her as the Speaker of the People's house. /sarc

Partner, we need Jim Jordan from Ohio in 2020 and he is my choice, also, my second choice for Speaker is Mark Meadows from N.C.

Jim Jordan is a street fighter like our current POTUS and we really like this trait from Jim Jordan.

Jim Jordan is also street smart which we have not seen in a Republican in a very long time as the Speaker, since we have had 18 years of the worst Speaker leadership that we have ever seen in Congress.

Partner, this statement is so true and yet it tells us a lot about the current state of affairs with the DemonRat party.

She needs 218, which means she could give over 20 of the new members cover to vote against her and still become speaker.

All true, one suspects; and one might also suggest a full surgical "clown" face procedure or so.

One also suspects acute power mania that just seems to be so "her".
