Personally, it is not their business We used to have medical privacy. When working in the lab setting, we actually had to put a piece of white paper over any lab results on our desks. You had to be really careful, just in case someone walked by your desk and glanced at the results!! It was in the HIPPA regulations, you know. Now ALL of our (sometimes) very personal information is on the Internet for any hacker to lift and publish. Obamacare destroyed our privacy AND the doctor/patient relationship. We are not just traveling downhill, we are all on the toboggan.

Fair enough, but in the pilot world, elevated BP sets off all kinds of bells and whistles and usually triggers blood work, that is where your liver will tell on you...The liver enzymes tell the tale, but it was the elevated BP that made them look deeper.

My family doesn’t drink & maybe alcohol screening has some merit, but should it be mandatory? A doctor has enough to do already, unless alcoholism directly relates to the problem at hand. I sure wouldn’t feel comfortable about questioning my doctor about some of his personal preferences/practices as they are no business of mine unless it impinges on the care level I receive from that doctor.

doctors are afraid to legitimately diagnose mental illness, until then they can stay involved in the liberal AMA.

ROFL!!!

As MUCH as a psycho as I appear to be, i have done ONE line of coke and smoked pot maybe EIGHT times in my ENTIRE life.

NO OTHER illegal substances.

Now booze, that’s a different story.

But chances are booze isn’t going to be laced with something that can kill you.

And once an acquaintance told me crack was 1000 times better than sex, I KNEW never to try it!!!

Cause how could you stop?

Elevated bp is bad no matter what the reason. I get it. If it sparks further tests that show how alcohol has hurt that person, I’m all for it.

On the one hand, I think if a doc truly cares for their patients, they should ask some lifestyle questions and make appropriate comments, which may fall on deaf ears. Maybe they should tell their patients they are 20 lbs north of a healthy weight, and mention the health problems they could suffer from, and maybe tell them what other successful patients did to lose the weight? The patient might walk out and think, FU doc, or might say, ‘well, I didn’t want to change until my doc said x...” and make a change.

But I don’t like pediatricians asking if there is a gun in the home. That is intrusive. It would be ok RE the health of their young patients I suppose, if the pedi asked, “are there any unsecured guns in the home?” That is fine. But I am sure a gangbanger with guns and drugs on the coffee table would say no anyway. Pediatricians should ask every parent, “Are there adults not related to the child in the home when the child is sleeping?” And then cite a stat about child abuse relating to these adults. I’d like that!

I see a big issue with it. EVERY tiny little bit of one’s life is NOT subject to some authoritarian’s idea about what is acceptable to the person in question. Besides it all goes into some data bank that serves the government oversight of your life.
