May is hit by double bombshell as Dominic Raab dramatically quit Cabinet over EU 'blackmail [tr]

Theresa May insisted her Brexit deal was not dead today after Dominic Raab and Esther McVey dramatically quit saying Britain was being 'blackmailed'.

The Prime Minister vowed to push on with her controversial plan after the Brexit Secretary threw her into chaos by dropping the bombshell news.

Ms McVey followed suit within minutes, accusing Mrs May of failing to 'honour the result of the referendum' following a bitter five-hour Cabinet debate last night. Other junior ministers have also quit as the situation threatens to spiral out of control.

The premier was angrily berated by DUP Westminster leader Nigel Dodds in a tense Commons exchange this morning, accusing her of failing to 'listen' and allowing the 'break up of the United Kingdom'

Mr. Raab was the Brexit Secretary. Looks like the EU is the roach motel. Once you go in can't get out. It seems the endgame is the UK stays in the UK so the past few years was for nothing.

I’ll suggest that within two weeks...May wakes up to find no path ahead for her, and the Crown has to call for a new election (probably mid-January). If that follows through...BREXIT occurs with no signed deal.

Do you think a vote of no confidence is in play?

The act of getting closer to a ‘deal’....seems to have laid out all the high impact cards of the EU, and infuriated a fair number of Tory members.

But the real fear among the crowd sitting in Parliament now...if you call for the no confidence vote and May loses...then a vast game comes into play.

First, with the exception of Boris Johnson....there really doesn’t seem to be anyone that stands out. From the left...Corbyn is a joke (even among Labour Party members).

Second, there is this wild card about Tommy Robinson and anger built up over individual rights. UKIP might suddenly find 30-percent of the vote, and having edged out both the Tories and Labour enough, with BREXIT really a second priority, and a bill of rights deemed as project number one.

If you watch Sky, BBC, and go look at internet journalists...there’s a heck of a lot of frustrated Brits who seem angered by the police, fake politics, fake journalism, and immigrants in the UK.

BREXIT has the power to open some vast door and create a fantastic relationship with the US, on trade, travel, and business. But I don’t see that open door with May’s hinted deal.

I’m not sure Theresa May will make it past the end of November. It takes, if I recall correctly, 48 letters of no confidence from Conservative MP’s to trigger a leadership challenge.

When that happens all bets are off.

The Queen no longer has the ability to dissolve Parliament and call for new elections since the passage of the Fixed Term Parliaments Act. The present Parliament has four years to go. The 2017 election only occurred because the leaders of of other parties agreed to it an passed a bill to dissolve the last Parliament.

Then if they reach that point, I’d bet on Boris to take the lead...but I don’t see how the BREXIT deal can be formed up or worked out by the deadline. All of this simply leads onto a non-treaty exit.

Some massive US trade deal would enter into the picture by March/April, and we’d simply move onto some unknown period with the EU trade situation.

We’ll see about Boris Johnson. He’s has his fans but also rubs a lot of MP’s the wrong way.

Internal Tory politics are personal as much as professional.

UK never wanted the EU. They wanted the free trade part of it, but none of the other crap.. at least they were smart enough to keep their currency

Mays government is done.. there will be a no confidence vote in a week or two at most

A no-deal Brexit would definitely be better than May’s Faux-exit.

What about Nigel Farage jumping back into the political scene?

The Queen’s powers haven’t changed in that regard, her power to do that has always been theoretical. The fixed term act merely means that is required in order for the government to advise the Queen to call for the dissolution of Parliament.

If the Conservative Party changes its leader, that doesn't necessarily mean a General Election. There have been plenty of examples of the PM changing mid-Parliament with no General Election.

By the way, it's a mistake to see this as 'May's Deal'. It's a proposed deal thrashed out between British and EU Commission officials after months of negotiation, in which the EU held virtually all the cards. This is the only deal the EU might be prepared to accept (would still have to get through the EU Council of Ministers and the EU Parliament, both doubtful). It's got little to do with what the British were asking for
