the legal pot advocates can't carry the argument on it's own merits, so they complicate it with alcohol.

Distortion - what alcohol does is

• provide relevant evidence, e.g., that legal adult mind alteration is less harmful on the whole than the effects of attempting to ban it
• expose as hypocrisy some anti-legalization arguments that apply equally well to alcohol, e.g., pot is unhealthy

Certainly lots of evidence to sustain the premise.

Who gets elected to public office, to some degree. Not painting with the broad brush.

A walk through Walmart. Observe cart driving, and who is aware of others around them and their need for aisle space etc. In other words, the world seems to revolve around certain of the clueless, or all of them.

The idea that 2000 Christian Religions are just what God ordered.

Islam is a religion of peace.

K12 public education is the cats meow.

A Convention of States is a perfectly rational idea, in a world of stupid morons.

High speed rail in the CA Central Valley is just what the doctor ordered.

Climate change is settled science.

etc.

etc.

With no claims of of personal perfection and no barbs aimed at anyone specific, and with the utmost humility, in the attempt to arrest the impossible.
