Capital Metro voted on Wednesday to continue offering students free rides on the transit system. The summer pilot program, Kids Ride Free, is now permanent. Students from kindergarten to 12th grade can ride by bus or rail at no charge... The estimated lost fare revenue is $250,000 to $300,000. But Capital Metro thinks building lifelong transit habits will pay-off in the long run.

What could possibly go wrong with letting kindergarteners ride on public transportation instead of a school bus? Hey, instead of hanging at the mall all day, teens can take over buses.
What could possibly go wrong is absolutely correct.
Dollars to doughnuts the ‘juvenile’ crime rate goes up by a bunch.
There is no such thing as a “free program”. Maybe you aren’t paying. But somebody else somewhere is.
Probably cheaper in the long run than trying to convict them of ‘fare jumping’.
Of course the 20 or sos will figure it is free for them also....

Attention Capital Metro: a 30 year old freeloader provides as much revenue as a 10 year old freeloader: zero.
It's far worse in DC. They just lowered the penalty for fare jumping to a $50 misdemeanor. Now the 20 or sos who make the metro unsafe will ride free all the time because of lack of a deterrent.

Like many programs targeting “kids” today, American taxpayers are funding foreign kids. Here in NJ our massive public school program is a prime example of this, and it is driving employers and taxpayers out of the state. “Free lunch” in NYC is continued throughout the summers now - and trafficked foreign children are getting plenty of them.
One of the complaints about the tax breaks NYC offered Amazon is these areas riddled with parasites need hosts - not competing parasites siphoning off resources for their own services.
DC had to do something because no one uses the metro. How many more police will be needed for this bright idea. I won’t be going underground on a train with gangs of teens and the filth they leave behind.this will cause a total collapse of the system that is very shaky.
stupid liberals. The moment those kids can afford their own car they will escaper the subway and buses.
No one rides mass transit except for those who have no other choice.

I was on a train in Tokyo and two very young girls were gossiping about their classmates in English. It was pretty funny to listen to.
