USA Today Faces Backlash After Shaming Heisman Winner for Tweets Posted When He Was a Teen

Kyler Murray won one of college football’s highest honors on Saturday as he was awarded the Heisman Trophy for his excellence as quarterback for Oklahoma, but USA Today wasn’t focused on his football accomplishments.

In a report published late Saturday night, USA Today dug up several tweets and claimed that Murray had made homophobic statements on Twitter. According to the report, Murray called one of his friends a “queer” in 2012. He was 15 years old at the time of the tweet.

In response to this hit from USA Today, Murray humbly apologized for the comments he had made when he was a teen. He penned the apology in the early hours of Sunday morning, just hours after he won the Heisman Trophy.

@TheKylerMurray "I apologize for the tweets that have come to light tonight from when I was 14 and 15. I used a poor choice of word that doesn’t reflect who I am or what I believe. I did not intend to single out any individual or group."

Still, his apology wasn’t enough for USA Today. They slammed him on Twitter for not deleting the old tweets as soon as he was hit with the story — at two in the morning, central time.

An activist press? Sadly , it serves no one well. It inflates egos and obliterates reason and defies logic.

If that fish wrap weren’t given free to motel guests, they’d have no readers. Shame on these hate mongers for picking through old garbage online to try to destroy good young people like Kyler Murray.

Because radical gays are leading the left, especially in the media.

This is how the commie left works...they DESTROY anyone that says anything against their perverted agenda. Funny how this is the same left that trashes Russia 24/7, when they do the EXACT same tactics

Fortunately, Twitter was not a “thing” when I was 14.

Seriously, whether its Bieber or a Heisman winner, people shouldn’t be held to such standards for things said as kids. Kids have always and always will say stupid things that are not well thought out.

Nothing a Socialist ever said or did in the past may be used against them. It’s unfair to hold them accountable.

USA Today is trash. They used to magnify their circulation figures by giving morning papers to the hotels to put in front of your room door. I guess enough folks like me complained that they didn’t want to stoop down to pick this unreadable rag up so they stopped it.

I was 15 in 1965 and the word “queer” was commonly used as a derogatory term at the high school I attended. Even the gym teachers used it.

“Fruit” was still somewhat in vogue. I was really disappointed when I learned the word “gay” had been hijacked and perverted.

Just got back from a 3 day hotel stay. Threw 3 days of their newspaper into the trash. No idea how they convince a hotel chain to pay.

I remember reading that Pete Townsend, one one of the zillions of times he was asked if he regretted writing “hope I die before I get old,” that he wished everyone else in the world was asked about the stupid @&*% they said when they were young. True that.
