US starts to withdraw troops from Trump border mission

The U.S. this week will begin withdrawing many of the active duty troops sent to the border with Mexico by President Donald Trump just before the midterm election in response to a caravan of Central American migrants, U.S. officials said Monday. About 2,200 of the active duty troops will be pulled out before the holidays, the officials said, shrinking an unusual domestic deployment that was viewed by critics as a political stunt and a waste of military resources. That will leave about 3,000 active duty troops in Texas, Arizona and California, mainly comprised of military police and helicopter transport crews who are assisting border patrol agents. There also will still be about 2,300 members of the National Guard who were sent to the border region as part of a separate deployment that started in April.

Perhaps the bat-guano crazy liberals take this view. But the moderates and conservatives are more of a "mission accomplished" mindset.

This move, id true, certainly provides evidence that it’s all talk, no action. Not surprised.

Since there won’t be a wall Trump needs to permanently deploy the military on the border.

We need armed troops all along the border until the wall is built.

The invasion continues.

Military brass don’t want troops on the border because they fear Democrats will cut DOD funding.

You mean like the “immediate declassification” and release of the FISA docs? That “action” was promised three months ago.

Dems will cut funding anyhow. Appeasing them isn’t going to spare the military one bit.

“This move, id true, certainly provides evidence that it’s all talk, no action. Not surprised.”

If they arent needed, then they arent needed.

If these guys have the situation under control, then a large force isnt necessary.

Certainly makes more sense than retarded statements like “ that it’s all talk, no action. Not surprised”. Like where you paying any damn attention the past few weeks?

Are there any estimates or hard information on how many of the invaders managed to cross, both legally and illegally?

Old news.

The only combat unit that deployed was 2nd Battalion (Assault), Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. They fly UH-60M Blackhawks; and had had ferry duty.

The Military Police are staying. The rest were support to the MPs.

They came, they saw, they emplaced concertina wire.

"...where you paying any damn attention the past few weeks?"

Guess you are not aware of the fact that this past November the number of invaders getting into the country surpassed the last few years by a substantial amount... Where does "retarded" fit into his statement?

In summary, there has been no "actual" progress... Just lots of smoke...

It's a quagmire, I tell yuh! They've got no exit strategy! Bring Our Troops Home, er... I mean...
