On 7 December 2018, at about 7:45 p.m., the owner of the Alibaba's convenience store in Syracuse, New York shot and wounded an armed robber. The robber ended up in the hospital. The story made the news.
A local reporter for syracuse.com, Patrick Lohmann, investigated the story and wrote it up. While doing a followup, Lohmann discovered the store owner had shot another robbery suspect six weeks earlier.
That story did *not* make the news. From syracuse.com:
SYRACUSE, N.Y. A tobacco shop owner who shot and badly injured a would-be robber Friday night at his North Side store also shot at and possibly injured a would-be robber six weeks ago at the same shop at the same time of night.
The owner of Alibaba Market on Wolf Street confirmed that he'd been involved in two shootings in as many months during a brief interview at his store on Saturday afternoon.
(snip)
Syracuse police did not announce an arrest in the Oct. 30 case or issue a news release, which is unusual in cases where shots are fired or someone is arrested in a robbery.
Police said there is a record of a robbery at the Alibaba Market at 7:25 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2018,

Of course, the media are about as interested in reporting incidents of defensive uses of guns as they are in reporting misdeeds of the Clintons. But in today’s climate, if there were a news story about a shopkeeper who defended himself, “social justice” groups would single him out to attack him or destroy his store.
Meanwhile we still get ten minutes of Khashoggi every hour after 3 months.
The guy who was on Bill Fradys Lock And Load radio show with you last week, Rob Morse, hosts a podcast that talks about these every week.

I had heard of it, but not read that article.
Thanks.

You’re welcome. First disclosure I know of, of the decedent’s criminal record...
I read an article last week which listed New York State as having the lowest crime rates of all the States. Non recording of crime would certainly help them with their statistics.
If they don’t report that a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy, did it really happen?
They are incorrect. Many states have lower crime rates than New York.
A quick perusal shows Colorado,Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Oregon, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, North and South Dakota,New Hampshire, Nebraska Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming all have lower levels of both total violent crime and murder.
The numbers are from 2014, the last year the tool at the link had available.
Some articles about New York put in the qualifier "gun crime", to claim New York has a lower crime rate.
IF he shoots enough of em, he won’t get robbed anymore, the police won’t need to be called, and the reporter would no longer have a “story”. What’s so bad about that?....LOL
Just to check, I used the tool listed previously to check property crime rates.
New York State was listed as second lowest, with Vermont being slightly lower.
I suspect you are correct about the non-reporting. I have read many people saying they do not bother to report property crimes because the police do nothing. It is especially prevalent in large urban areas.
hummm well I wonder if it were only syr.com ONLY that declined to print the 1st self defense shooting and was it because the shooter was a minority?
Now if the other 7 syracuse news groups did not report the 1st shooting perhaps there’s a conspiracy of silence going on and who’s in charge there...that’s the story I’d like to read.
It seems unlikely the other news outlets did. If they had, syr.com would likely have known of it.

They get that low rate by considering black crime a form of work. "Hey woman I robbed three C-stores today and one old lady with a bag of groceries. This new job is lookin' good!"
The police are not looking to protect you. They are looking to charge you with a crime.
