Jim Jordan on the real dysfunction in Washington DC
12/30/18 | CQ Livingston

Posted on 12/30/2018 6:38:44 AM PST by a little elbow grease

We often discuss how politicians in Washington DC are wrong in the way they go about doing things. It’s evident by how certain things move way too quickly while other things never move at all. But perhaps a bigger issue isn’t in how they do things but what they set out to do in the first place.

Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) had some thoughts about the responsibility of those in Washington DC. He rightly pointed out that making deals isn’t really what was intended. We didn’t vote for our conservative representatives to bend on DACA any more than leftists voted for their representatives to bend on the wall, yet that seem to be the direction debates go in DC.

As Jordan put it, Americans want solutions, not deals.

“Here’s the thing Washington always misses. Washington always wants a deal. America wants a solution. Americans sent us here to solve problems.”

If the GOP had made more progress on the solutions they promised, such as defunding Planned Parenthood, repealing Obamacare, and funding the border wall, perhaps they wouldn’t have lost their majority in the House of Representatives during the midterm elections.

Just a thought.

As Jordan put it:

"Americans want solutions, not deals."

________

It may be mentioned to the very good man, Jim Jordan, that once in a while a strong deal can create a solution.

“Americans want solutions, not deals.”

Yes, just look at what the “New Deal” FDR imposed on the country did for it.
I think Congressman Jordan knows that a solution is a “fair deal,” something that politicians can’t grasp. Because few if any of them are there to make a “fair deal” for their constituents, but rather an under-the-table, crooked deal to help their financial benefactors who are lining their pockets.

Yep - especially when one’s “allies” will not allow any solution w/o a give-away deal....but he is also correct - we hate the freakin’ deals the RINOs always give the house away with...(pun intended).

Defunding Planned Parenthood, repealing Obamacare, and funding the border wall,

Sickening, none of the three were done. With both houses and the POTUS we couldn’t get any of these.

Most of the current group in Washington want to make deals to ensure that problems continue and are not solved. They just want the best deal for themselves so they can cash in on the problem without solving it.

It was never possible to repeal Obamacare, for reasons which I will explain:

Obamacare won’t be repealed, because it can’t be repealed - or, more exactly, it can’t be repealed without ushering in huge Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate.

Members of Congress don’t know much, but they can count votes like a pimp in a whorehouse can count money.

Yes, the voters “hate Obamacare and want it repealed”. That is absolutely true.

It’s also true that they want the ability to buy insurance for pre-existing conditions, want insurance companies to be forbidden to cancel policies for non-payment, want zero payment at the point of service, want their adult children who are smoking dope in a dive in Oakland to stay covered, want their States to expand Medicaid without taxes going up, and so on.

In other words, the only two things they hate about Obamacare are paying for it, and the name.

Republicans in Congress understand this perfectly well, which is why they never made a serious effort to end anything about it, other than agreeing to pay for it with debt instead of revenue.

And, not coincidentally, Obamacare (and Romneycare) were the culmination of fifty years of “reform”, all of which had the purpose of destroying the private sector or making it impossible for the private sector to function, except for boob jobs and a few other things. And, by 2009, the mission was largely accomplished.

Obamacare was merely a temporary mop-up operation, until full nationalization was possible.

And now, it is.

If anything, one could say that Trump’s actions on the healthcare situation....accelerated the decline/downfall of ObamaCare. I expect the 2020 election to center on this healthcare problem as one of the top three issues of the campaign. Medicare for all....ends being this ‘final solution’.

The Wall business...I expect some meeting by mid-Feb (say 50 days into the shut-down) and some movement to a 1.5-billion ‘answer’ for 2019, and a promise of a second 1.5-billion for 2020. At least two of the states on the border will be finished up by 2021 (California probably won’t get an inch of the Wall projects).

Let’s hope we don’t end up sold out on DACA as part of passing this budget.

Look at the “deal” Ronald Reagan got for granting the original amnesty; millions of new Democrat voters, no border security, and millions more demanding amnesty. Reagan lived to regret his mistake, making deals with the Democrats is like making deals with the Devil; There IS NO GOOD DEAL>

Balderdash.

Pre-existing conditions are covered anyway if you’ve kept yourself covered—or if you drop to Medicaid status.

I see no reason why the American taxpayer should subsidize your welfare needs, like it does for the indigent, without having equal asset spend-down requirements for all. And again, Medicaid already covers pre-existing conditions.

And you generalize about voters in the majority in ways that simply aren’t true.

We do not want an efficient Government! Our founders did everything possible to prevent this with checks and balances of power.

Repeat LOUD and OFTEN, We do not want an efficient government.

It may be mentioned to the very good man, Jim Jordan, that once in a while a strong deal can create a solution.

Creating a deal that compromises on the funding for a wall would not be a "solution".

For example a 2.5 billion dollar compromise deal on the wall is not a solution. Even a 5.0 billion dollar deal with DACA is not a solution.

There are no political "solutions".

We are in a spiritual battle more than a political one. Until Americans start filling up those church pews and spending more time seeking the Kingdom of God, it won't matter who we elect to office.

There. I said it. Commence flaming.

Ain’t just Democrats. A lot of DC is in the business of making sure problems don’t get solved, so that the money allegedly intended to solve those problems keeps flowing.
