House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) introduced the first piece of legislation for the newly convened 116th Congress and it is a political reform bill that includes a provision that would force states to allow convicted felons to vote as long as they were no longer actually in prison.

“H.R. 1 will create automatic voter registration across the country; ensure that individuals who have completed felony sentences have their full rights restored; expand early voting and simplify absentee voting; and modernize the U.S. voting system,” says a summary of the bill released by Pelosi.

A subsection of the bill is called “Democracy Restoration.” The summary for that subsection says: “Declares the right of citizens to vote in federal elections will not be denied because of a criminal conviction unless a citizen is serving a felony sentence in a correctional facility.”

It continues: “Requires states and the federal government to notify individuals convicted of state or federal felonies, respectively, of their re-enfranchisement.” …

I would take that with a biometric-backed voter ID requirement, a banning of vote harvesting and early voting beyond one week.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) introduced the first piece of legislation for the newly convened 116th Congress...

And it will be the first of many pieces of legislation introduced by the Dem House of Representatives to be DOA.

Is this even constitutional?

They won’t take that compromise. Good thing this bill’s going nowhere (can’t even see the RINOs backing it en masse).

It’s a full court press to get every available voter no matter where they come from or who they are. People mean nothing but votes to the democrats.

I don’t see how it is. Another attack on states’ rights.

Same. I also applaud Trump on prison reform and don't buy that all convicted felons are idiots who vote left. Maybe the time they serve got them in touch with their better selves. (And God) who knows.

Sure, so long as they vote Democratic. Vote “R” and they want to scream “Fraud” to the edge of the solar system.

GOP was in control for 2 years. Did they push any legislation to require ISs to vote, or other common-sense election integrity reforms?

I would stick it back to her and insist that nonviolent ex-felons also have their gun rights restored.

No.

States have control over their election processes and they determine if and when felons can vote.

You are so right, and as a bonus tax payers will save a ton of money spent on non-violent drug users in prison.

I am of the opinion that the following should not be allowed to vote:

Non citizens
Any ward of the state (convicts, parolees, those who are unable to mentally manage their affairs - I would say those that are receiving welfare fall into that category)
Those who have been convicted of treason, sedition, or vote fraud.

That’ll get through to her right after the repeated reminders that the Catholic Church is anti-abortion and anti-homosexual-behavior get through.
