here's a novel idea for reducing class size and increasing wages: close the border and eliminate English-as-a-third-language curriculum (guats and hons speak regional mayan dialects - why are we teaching them Spanish instead of English?)

Great post re: education in CA.

Your key point was nicely and succinctly encapsulated in a few words....."Our kids are getting SO short-changed".

Public education was the state’s response to the Catholic schools that the nuns set up in the ‘new country.’ The feds were afraid that too many little children would be taught about God, and wanted their own secular version. Maybe it’s time for them to fail. All they are is propaganda-pushers at this point.

I can’t find an LAUSD school around here that is not a charter school.

________________________________________________

There are several LAUSD Charter Schools in San Fernando Valley...El Camino Real Charter High School...Granada Hills Charter High School...Birmingham Community Charter High School...

There is Palisades Charter High School in Pacific Palisades...

Teachers in those schools are not striking...

My cousin worked at a high school many years ago, Van Nuys high school, he was a teacher, left after a month, couldn’t take it..the kids, stupid as you can ever imagine, they were more interested in doing gang signs than anything else, most didnt speak English, and they would get into fights in the classroom, he couldnt take it and quit

I attended a high school in Van Nuys a long time ago...Not Van Nuys High...My high school is near Encino and Tarzana...
My high school now is not like when I went to school...Racial composition of school has changed...
