I 'll stay silent because I have disliked this media darling for years.

He did more for the common investor with his promotion of low cost index funds than probably anyone else on Wall Street in the last hundred years.

Memory eternal.

My folks told me to always speak good of the dead. He’s dead, good.

I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I have to ask - why?

I am not the common investor and manage my own investments. Bogle’s advice has always been self-serving. Informed investors, such as myself, can do far better than Vanguard.

Vanguard and Schwab are two of the better investment firms who don’t fee you to death by a thousand cuts.

Bogle’s appearances on TV were used to plug Vanguard’s passive investment style and would occasionally affect the prices of regular listed stocks. For example, he once said don’t bother buying risky AMZN, buy an index stock instead. I just happened to have a sell on that stock at the time and the price fell. He could move markets.

There is a mountain of statistical evidence that affirms the vast majority of investors are better off using a handful of dirt cheap index funds with the dividends set to reinvest. Are there exceptions? Yes. But they are statistical anomalies. Some people also win the lottery.

Harry Markowitz won a Nobel Prize in Economics for his work in asset diversification in investing — one of Bogle’s key investments strategies.

I’m anxious to hear about the great things you’ve accomplished in life. Like introducing indexed funds to the masses, and taking the power away from overpriced money managers.

I have no idea who he was. It’s a old joke, just sarcasm.
