Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell informed his Democratic colleagues that he's holding a vote to "immediately open the government" on Thursday. The government has been shuttered for 32 days now as President Trump and Democrats continue to butt heads over border security. As Trump suggested, McConnell's legislation will include $5.7 billion for border security, including funds to build a wall.
Democratic leadership insists they're not paying for Trump's border barrier, but McConnell urged his colleagues to "put the country ahead of politics and take 'yes' for an answer."
Over the weekend Trump offered a compromise deal. If Democrats agreed to the wall, he'd offer temporary protections for "Dreamers," individuals participating in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Conservatives weren't thrilled about it, and the Democrats rejected it outright.
On Twitter Tuesday Trump commended congressional Republicans for their laser focus.
Never seen @senatemajldr and Republicans so united on an issue as they are on the Humanitarian Crisis & Security on our Southern Border. If we create a Wall or Barrier which prevents Criminals and Drugs from flowing into our Country, Crime will go down by record numbers!
McConnell's proposal on Thursday would reopen the nine shuttered federal departments and dozens of agencies through Oct. 1. It'll also include $12.7 billion in disaster aid.
Meanwhile, Democrats plan to vote on their own bill.
This week, @HouseDemocrats will vote on more bipartisan bills to re-open government, and act to bolster funding for border security solutions that work. @realDonaldTrump & @senatemajldr need to stop holding Americans hostage, stop blocking these bills, and #EndTheShutdown now.
Disaster aid for who?
No Democrat, except maybe Joe Manchin will vote for the Republican bill. Can’t pass cloture vote.
A 3 week Continuing Resolution - Schumer’s bill - I have a sick feeling will bring over a dozen or so weak Republicans and get to a vote. House will then pass.
So much for McConnell not putting a bill on the floor that the President won’t sign.
I’m fearful the President might just sign a 3 week CR if the House passes a clean one as well. Heat is too much. Then we can negotiate... (sure.)
Kick the can 3 weeks....
Pelosi Twitter page blowing up hard against her.
Democrat “bipartisan” Bills? List the Traitors.
Any Democrats Voting for the Republican Bill so we can call it “bipartisan” as well?
Ahh, nothing like the obligatory, good old fashioned, pork. Let's see how much of that $12.7 Billion is unrelated to "disaster aid."
12.7B for Porto Rico’s self-inflicted disaster and only 5.7B for a wall?
I think part of it is for the fires in CA.
I don't know. Emergency botox adjustment for Nanzi? Who cares? As long as the wall is included.
Bump!
Yep. And some additional funding for the Florida panhandle. A couple of towns there are still unlivable. Mexico Beach in Bay County is a prime example
Ann Coulter, having a meltdown in 3-2-1 ...
Support Free Republic, Folks!
Trump knows that his base would be very unhappy if the government re-opened ad there was no funding for a wall. But can you imagine how the left core of the Democratic Party would react if Schumer and or Nancy the nut actually agreed to fund a wall. Its a stalemate. The only real solution is for Trump as Commander in Chief to order the Army Corp of Engineers to build the wall and use existing Pentagon funds for its construction. Withdraw from just some of the debilitating foreign entanglements and plenty of money will be avaiable.
Like the Beatles said, “but she don’t care”!
New York Times reports a deal between Turtle and Chuck U that will include border wall funding and reopening the governmehg for eight weeks.
It puts Nancy in the akward position of torpedoing a bipartsan spending. bill.
Looks like Trump won the shutdown battle.
I'm sure many are pis*** that she got to be speaker.
Saw video from my former DIL of Mexico Beach a couple days after. What town?
