More than a thousand inmates have been stuck in freezing cells at a federal jail on the Brooklyn waterfront that has had limited power and heat for at least this week, according to federal public defenders and leaders of the union representing the jails corrections officers.
They just stay huddled up in the bed, said June Bencebi, a case manager at the jail and the treasurer of the local chapter of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents about 500 corrections officers at the jail.
The jail, the Metropolitan Detention Center, houses more than 1,600 inmates and lies in an industrial swath near the waterfront in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Some inmates are linked to high-profile drug trafficking and terrorism cases, while others are comparatively anonymous New Yorkers awaiting trial.

The body generates heat.
Hey...maybe we can use this.. :)
“...while others are comparatively anonymous New Yorkers awaiting trial....”
For selling loosies, having an unregistered bb gun, smoking in the open air, criticizing DiBlasio, etc.
Why aren’t those jails heated by clean solar heat?
Not impressed, Texas state prisons have no AC.
I suppose one has to click on the nyt link to see why the building had limited heat. Other nearby buildings?
This is what you get when you depend on DemocRATs state-sponsored suffering.
LOL! That trumps NY!
I’m so distraught over this, NOT
What, DeBlabbios bloviating doesnt create enough hot air to run the city’s ohysical plant?
Considering the source this story is likely bogus.
I wonder if Im a prisoner locked in some Brooklyn jail
Or some sort of Jonah, shut up inside the whale
Reminds me of some ships I sailed on.
Viet Nam to Mobile Alabama. Wet cloth with a fan blowing on my chest. There is NO evaporative cooling in that humidity.
On my way to Viet Nam, docked in Germany, plant (power plant)died. I slept in my wet suit covered with blankets.
Texas state prisons have no AC.
No heat or AC in Japanese prisons.
“The walls are damp. There is mold on the walls— infested with insects, rotting floorboards, rotting tatami, no heating at any time. No heating whatsoever, not even in the middle of winter.”
No this story is true. And not right. No heat. No hot water or hot meals in freezing weather. I don’t think they are convicted but awaiting trials.
Power outages. Failed equipment. Equipment was replaced but then caught fire.
Some don’t have coats. Inhumane.
Limited clothing, limited blankets, the warmest spot is 34 degrees. Won’t let them go to the commissary to buy sweatshirts. furnace broken for quite awhile now.
