It does limit the number of beds, but to 40k total rather than 35k total / 16.5k domestic. There’s 40.5k total at present. So it’s only a small limit (but does prevent expansion).
If trump takes the money, he can continue to campaign for more. (George Washington didn’t win it all at once either.) Most people really want a wall, but not everyone is willing to have air travel, the coast guard, etc., held hostage.

If the compromise $1.38 billion will only build 55 miles of border wall, then Trump’s 5.7 billion would only build about 220 miles of wall. STILL NOT ENOUGH!

No gubmit shutdown, Congress on record “approving” the building of a wall, they just gave Trump the ammo to defeat frivolous lawsuits against alternative funding.

It seems to me that while every single person on our side of this issue would have wanted to get the full $25 billion that a full wall will ultimately cost, right now, the reality is that we cannot. So let’s take this now, let Trump have a victory that he can use to beat up on Nancy (not one cent; well, maybe $0.10) Pelosi with HER constituents so as to depress Dem turnout and contributions.
Look, we know that Trump is relentless, that he NEVER gives up. He may change direction for tactical reasons, but the guy just NEVER loses focus; how else do you turn a $1 million loan into a multi-billion dollar fortune in 30 years? Trump is not only smarter than the vast majority of these pols (on both sides, and not by a little), but he is awake and literally thinking of newer and better ways to outsmart and outmaneuver his opponents (on both sides) while they are busy sleeping. Trust this guy, he means what he says and he performs...he’s done it since he was 25 and just starting in real estate, he’s not going to change that.

The problem is, 1.3 Billion is far from 70% of what Trump asked for. Then there’s the matter of the 16,500 bed limitation for those who are detained...

The 70% figure was one used by Reagan, and wasn’t even meant by him (let alone me) to be literal. It means “take what you can get, when you can get it, then come back for more.” It means “defeat your enemies one salami slice at a time, just like they have been defeating US for the last century or so.”
This is tactically wise. Even if it isn’t as satisfying as marching a million guys with tanks and artillery through the heart of Berlin, I’ll take the invasion of Sicily as a good start.

Behind the smokescreen Trump keeps chipping away at teh wall. 200-300 miles of new wall has been built. A new stretch in TX is starting right now. Trump has said, because of natural barriers, we could need as little as 700 miles of wall. In other words the wall is about half done.
