Define ‘effective.’ I don’t know of too many people capable of making 1,500 meter shots with an AR-15, especially one equipped with open sights or a 1x red dot.

On Parris Island, I was taught the maximum effective range of the M16A2 Service Rifle was:
Point target, 550 meters. Area target, 800 meters.
I shot Expert, but 1500 meters? Nope. That's like the warning on a box of .22, saying, 'range - 1 mile'.
