You’re right, I don’t call him a fascist. He’s certainly anti-democratic, and I say so in the book, but I don’t call him a fascist because he isn’t violent. If he ends up declaring an emergency at the border over immigration, then I might change my position. There’s a long history of fascists using “emergencies” to create fear and conflict, so that’s a potential red line. If Trump does that, then he really is a bully with an army.
But I do think his approach to the free press, to democratic institutions, to the independent judiciary, is extremely dangerous and anti-democratic. And his general disdain for the rule of law is genuinely alarming. Sean Illing
I have to push back here, because I think you’re wrong on the point about violence. In addition to denouncing the free press, in addition to threatening to jail political opponents, in addition to undermining rule of law, Trump has actually incited political violence at his rallies, and he’s created an atmosphere in which violence is far more likely.
It seems to me he’s checked nearly all the fascist boxes.

Vox sounds like one of the front organizations instigated by Russia to sow discord in the USA. Notice how Democrats are attracted to these outlets.

If you don’t let illegal immigrants invade your country - you’re a fascist.
If you don’t submit to communism you’re a fascist.
If you don’t turn over your guns to prove you won’t be violent - you’re a fascist.
If you actually use the banks and commerce to silence opposing viewpoints to communism you’re stopping bullying.
If you use force and threats of violence (maxine waters, Obama, antifa, hillary, Pelosi) and, y’know, actually shoot republican elected officials you’re a hero.
There’s a long history of facists taking extreme action to repel the Left because “respectable” politicians did nothing but watch their societies be overrun with sewage. Pinochet and Franco come to mind.

He recognizes that the nation state is the strongest and most democratic governmental structure. Wars happen when global visions are forced on independent nation states.Stalin was a globalist.
