Agreed. May I add making the multitude of Americans slaughtered helping the South seemingly a waste, not to mention the thousands more still suffering from the effects of that war.
Prez Ford had the option of going back in early 75. I recall the 3/4 Cav loaded and waiting in C141’s and other aircraft waiting for the order to retake Ton Sun Nhut. The order never came, the troops went home demoralized only to watch live on TV the evacuation of Saigon. Later the same troops were put on Navy carriers to help shove Huey’s overboard from still fleeing Vietnamese.
Unfortunately, history has shown that there is some truth to his statements. What is also true is that his statement applies to every every nation at one time or another , because every nations first and foremost interest is it's own.
Ford also sold US out on the Panama CZ which we should have kept
