For someone who never held elective office before the presidency, Donald Trump has made some savvy political moves during these first 25 months in office, many of them aimed at earning another 48 months in this job come 2020.
Of course, his undisciplined remarks often create stumbles, handing opponents openings and verbal ammo to use against him, though few of those seem to have left lasting marks so far. But a recent astute move came in probably the most-quoted part of his 5,100-word State of the Union address earlier this month.
The president had scorned Venezuela’s slide into turmoil and chaos under President Nicolas Maduro “whose socialist policies have turned that nation from being the wealthiest in South America into a state of abject poverty and despair.”
Then, Trump brought that news home for the nearly 47 million viewers watching live:
“Here, in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country. America was founded on liberty and independence - not government coercion, domination and control. We are born free, and we will stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country.”
For many Americans, that statement revealed only a keen grasp of the obvious. But for significant, energetic sectors now assembling for the 2020 primary competition in the left wing of the Democratic Party, those were fighting words.
Stand by in the coming months to hear that progressive fissure voiced over and over, and for Trump and other Republicans to foment it at every opportunity.

Oh, and, YES, Trump is a pretty astute pol, even though he’s not a professional pol. First, he’s generally pretty damned astute - how else do you turn a $1 million loan into billions in 30 years? Second, he’s been dealing with pols (mainly in NYC) since he started in the real estate market, so he understands what makes them tick. Third, he is definitely a quick learner, and has learned a LOT over the last 3 or so years.
The Left still hasn’t learned: never underestimate this man, particularly if you’ve made him your enemy.
You’re either an American who is WITH us, or you are AGAINST us. If you’re a Socialist, or an Illegal Invader or an Islamic Terrorist - homegrown or imported - you’re not on our side.
PDJT states it quite plainly; not sure why everyone doesn’t hear that. Seems obvious to me! MAGA! :)
Why is Bernie Sander ashamed to call himself a DEMOCRAT? He magically becomes a Democrat when he runs for President! Why do Democrats allow him to run in their primary???
Let’s see if the Dems take the bait, and go on about how “socialism is good”, and then have to defend their words.

Socialists in the public spotlight always shy away from the subject of socialism itself, especially any critical analysis of it. Because it inherently has no answers to some fundamental problems. So yes, make socialism the issue because that’s what Democrats are pushing. Force them to defend it if they can.
Andrew Malcolm is exactly the kind of swamp creature GOPe writer who always has to take a swipe at Trump while praising him for something.
It’s up to rank and file GOP voters to get rid of all of these wimps.....both the politicians and the pundits, and replace them with people who understand that Trump is easily the best thing to happen to this country since Reagan, if not better.
The Weekly Standard is folding, and no Conservative with half a brain pays any attention to the likes of George Will anymore. That’s a good start, but there’s still too many back stabbers out there pretending to be on our side.
May all of the above socialists enjoy the fruits of their harvest as the Trump Curse visits them on a regular basis from now and through the 2020 election.

We are under no delusion that we voted for some kind of eloquent statesman

We voted for a hard-nosed, eye-gouging, ass-kicking, street-fighting businessman who would put the interests of his country above the fragile sensibilities of our enemies and fair-weather “friends”.
Every black eye, every kick in the teeth, every insult and affront this president gives to the enemies of our freedom only makes us appreciate him all the more.
The democrat party, the GOP elites, the totalitarian globalists, the deep state, the EU, big media, big entertainment, big sports and all their sycophants, junkies and groupies have clearly demonstrated that they are committed, visceral enemies of our Creator-endowed rights and freedoms.
Their howls of disdain and shrieks of opprobrium are music to our ears.
What is obvious to me is, DSA, Global Warming/Climate Change, all seek to rid the world, especially America of Capitalism....Socialism is the smaller version of Communism and Communism always has a powerful ruling class...as does Socialism. Yes, MAGA!
You can line up all the success stories about Socialism end to end and they wouldn’t bridge the vacuous gaps between the ears of all those self-proclaimed ‘ready for the Oval orifice’ occupancy.

The first thing I liked about trump was his expert trolling of the left. It never disappoints. And it outs them.
