Colorado governor will sign bill aimed at bypassing Electoral College
The Hill ^ | February 25, 2019

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) will sign a measure to award his state’s electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, moving a countrywide coalition one step closer to circumventing the Electoral College.

In an interview Sunday, Polis called the Electoral College an “undemocratic relic” of the nation’s past, one he wants to see relegated to the dustbin of history.

“I’ve long supported electing the president by who gets the most votes,” Polis told The Hill. “It’s a way to move towards direct election of the president.”

Colorado will become the 12th state to join the national popular vote interstate compact. Those 12 states and the District of Columbia, which has also passed a popular-vote bill, account for 172 electoral votes, just under 98 shy of the 270 votes a presidential candidate needs to win the White House.

“So far, only reliably blue states have joined the compact, including California, Massachusetts, New York and Washington. But red states like Arkansas, Arizona and Oklahoma and purple states like Michigan and North Carolina have passed the measure through at least one legislative chamber controlled by Republicans, giving backers hopes of breaking through with the GOP.

So, the idiot willingly disenfranchises the vote of his state’s citizens? Really stupid. Wonder if this is constitutional, state or federal?

So this liberal hack governor wants California and New York to run the country? They can’t even run their own states.

It is such a good idea to give electoral power to overpopulated, inner city mobs with no clue how the country is supposed to operate, for instance the one in the Bronx and Queens who put that crazy egomaniacal ingnorant AOC in office

Leftists are determined to completely eliminate the Constitution.

They already got the GOP’s help to install an ineligible usurper.

Will they get their help with this?

“what an idiot and waste of time.”

He will make Colorado’s vote useless. Colorado residents should not even bother to vote in the future, waste of time.

this is unconstitutional. A state can’t dictate how a federal election should be decided.

Seems to indicate that the answer to my previous question is probably yes.

Article II, Section 1, Clause 2
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

You don't have a constitutional right to vote for President. The electors are chosen solely as the State legislature directs. How the electors are then to vote, is not specified by the Constitution. While this seems a spectacularly stupid action by the Colorado legislature, I'm not convinced it's unconstitutional.

He’s directing his electors to ignore the vote of the people in Colorado and vote for someone favored by other States.

Wonder if someone will point that out to the idiots.

* Except, of course, if that popular vote winner is Donald Trump.

I cannot think of a faster way to split the nation and bring on session and war than to nullify the voting significance of roughly 35 states.

Absolutely nothing.

IF it was stand alone, it probably would be Constitutional, but this is an agreement with other states for political purposes, and requires the approval of Congress. That’s what makes it unConstitutional.

Remember Florida and the chads? If an election is decided by national popular vote then the recount has to be nationwide. Expect challenges between states on their voting procedures. If a candidate has won with 80% of the vote in a state, the votes must still be recounted, because it could be off by the margin of national error.

Why cannot a state secede if the fundamental rules of government are changed to remove representative participation in the republic/
