Leftist Democrats, led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., introduced a revised government-funded Medicare for All Act on Wednesday as Republicans ready their opposition and Democratic presidential hopefuls face questions about what Medicare for All could mean and the role government should have in setting rates for private insurers.
Jayapals bill largely mirrors a 2017 proposal by Sen. Bernard Sanders, I-Vt., but the heart of every Medicare for all proposal to date has been the same: government price controls for private health coverage. The price controls question could be one of the major policy issues of the 2020 Democratic primary and a key way of differentiating the most progressive candidates on the Left from others seeking the nomination, but Republicans are posing the question as well.
Top Republicans have called for hearings on the topic while emphasizing that they oppose it, and House Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Kevin Brady, R-Texas, stated, Were going to pull the curtain back on Medicare for all so the American people can actually assess it. As House conservatives endeavor to pull back the curtain on the all-payer rate setting proposal, they might be surprised to find that the heart of the Medicare for all approach has been proposed as a healthcare solution on the Right, as well as the Left.
During a recent roundtable at the White House, President Trumps declaration that curbing surprise medical bills would be a top priority for his administration tracked the momentum underway in Congress, where a handful of Republican and Democratic lawmakers have already begun promoting legislation aimed at resolving the problem. Unfortunately, their focus on the federal government implementing price controls will do little to protect patients from increased healthcare costs and ultimately paves the way for Democrats to make their Medicare for all dream a reality.

PING!
*** VETO ***
This is a powerful message for the left.
Be aware, our side will LOSE if we do not respond positively, in some way.
Saying “keep things the way they are” is NOT a response, which will win support from anyone, except those in the medical field.
And they are a large part of the problem.
Oregon intends to beat the feds with its own plan. Here is the letter I sent for testimony.
Senate Bill 770 eliminates private healthcare in Oregon. Medical guidance would flow through an unelected panel to a bureaucracy administering treatments allowed within government funding. Doctors and patients would conform to approved scenarios for treatment created to contain astronomical costs; costs causing California and Vermont to abandon the idea.
Princeton bioethics professor Peter Singer in the New York Times illustrated the best thinking for managing single payer healthcare. Rationing health care means getting value for the billions spent by setting limits on which treatments should be paid for from the public purse .Theres no doubt that its tough politically, emotionally, and ethically - to make a decision that means that someone will die sooner than they would have if the decision had gone the other way .The task of health care bureaucrats is then to get the best value for resources they have been allocated .If a teenager can be expected to live another 70 years, saving that life gains 70 years, whereas a person of 85 can be expected to live another 5 years, then saving the 85-year-old will gain only 5 life-years. That suggests saving one teenager is equivalent to saving 14 85-year-olds.
Besides age, additional criteria can constrain costs. For example, we can measure intelligence, define mental illness and physical handicaps, and identify addictions. Overall the panel and bureaucracy would decide certain people make minimal or no contribution to society. The access to healthcare would be adjusted accordingly.
I would rather face the uncertainties of finding my own care.
I ask that this letter be included with testimony concerning SB770.

What they are really talking about is NHS ... where the unwashed masses go to die.
Jayapal? This piglet isn’t even an American and the ***hole wants to destroy Medicare?
Next up all guns that have a magazine over 5 rounds will be illegal in Oregon. The bill will require all Oregonians to register our "assualt" rifles, so they can keep a list of who owns them and begin the prosecutions.
It is hard to move especially when retired, but move we are and the states that are options are getting less and less, Costa Rica sounds more and more enticing.
