Unfortunately, Rand Paul is so concerned with "proper procedure" that he fails to see the more overriding concern --- the ideological war.
If the constitution doesn’t secure our nation or the safety of American citizens, it’s time to ignore it.
Paul is hard to understand. He is against US involvement in foreign wars, but is OK with his own country being invaded.

This states and shows it all.

What Rand Paul doesn’t understand is that Congress gave the President Emergency Declaration powers.
In 1976.

How’s this work?
I thought an EO or emergency whatever didn’t need congress’ approval.
Do they need 2/3 or a majority to approve or override, I don’t know which.
Enlighten please.
I think he does understand the issue. I am concerned about the emergency declaration as well. How much extra funding is there with the emergency? One way the President can throw this back in Democrats face is to tell them that any spending bill that comes to his desk must have a plan to return to Article 1 Section 8 spending limits. Let them try to respond to that. He will have forced their hand. At the same time, put the military on the border in large numbers.
Congress doesn’t have the Constitutional authority to delegate powers to other branches.
Rand Paul is our AOC, and unlike the Democrats, we were actually stupid enough to elevate him to the Senate.
Rand seems to wake up everyday with the world being brand new to him. His brain must be like an etch-a-sketch.
You have this all backwards. The Constitution is not to blame for the failure of idiot lawmakers to adhere to it.
Rand and the Repubs are IGNORING the laws they enacted to protect the US in times like this.
“Unfortunately, Rand Paul is so concerned with “proper procedure” that he fails to see the more overriding concern -— the ideological war.”
Damn him. And all of those a-holes who stand on procedure in the face of a serious threat.
I understand Paul’s concern, and if it were some legislation regarding some obscure thing, ok, stand your ground.
President Trump is trying to save the country from the permanent political class and their donors. How about you stand for America and Americans, and not some esoteric BS that makes you feel superior Rand?!
I’m a libertarian but I’m faaaar from an anarchist. Letting anyone walk into your country, en masse, is pure anarchy. It’s not just a lawless emergency, it’s willful negligence to allow it to happen without at least trying to stop it.
Someone needs to take some fentenyl and stuff it up rand paul’s snout.
While I have some appreciation for Paul’s adherence to “principle”, he needs to wake up and realize that we’ve basically lost the republic. The socialists have declared war on us and we have been losing for decades. What Paul is doing is declaring his intention to not fight back. Because principles.
Not a stand I can support at this time.
This is possibly the most ridiculous comment I have read here in months. For sure, top 5. Paul is a consistent Constitutionalist. It’s called his oath of office. The Republic will die if we continue embracing pragmatism
Of course not. That power lies solely within the Judicial Branch.
(sarc or no sarc. can’t decide)
Libertarianism is uncomfortable wit the concept of nation.
Also uncomfortable with anything that implies constraint on an individual. Most publically (usually loudly!) self proclaimed libertarians that I know conflate libertarianism with libertinism. Not only do they not want any outside party constraining them they don’t want to have any self constraint either.
The Democrats can make this their slogan on gun control, radical environmentalism, gender, taxes, health care.
Just curious, how far do you live from the border?
Paul is hard to understand. He is against US involvement in foreign wars, but is OK with his own country being invaded.
He’s an open borders Libertarian. He hates America ever bit as much as AOC.
