After the election and re-election of the country's first black president, who would have thought that, less than two years later, leading Democrats would seriously debate paying blacks reparations for slavery?
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi supports a bill that would set up a commission to consider reparations, which she says is "One of the things that we can do not only just in terms of trying to make up for a horrible, sinful thing that happened in our country in terms of slavery, but for our country to live up to who we think we are." She added: "We have to reduce the disparity in income in our country. We have to reduce the disparity in access to education in an affordable way in our country, reduce the health disparities in our country."
But two years ago, President Barack Obama called reparations a political nonstarter. "It is easy to make that theoretical argument," Obama said in an interview. "But as a practical matter, it is hard to think of any society in human history in which a majority population has said that as a consequence of historic wrongs, we are now going to take a big chunk of the nation's resources over a long period of time to make that right."
President John F. Kennedy took the same positions. Asked in1963 about race-based affirmation action for blacks, Kennedy said: "I don't think we can undo the past. In fact, the past is going to be with us for a good many years in uneducated men and women who lost their chance for a decent education. We have to do the best we can now. That is what we are trying to do. I don't think quotas are a good idea. I think it is a mistake to begin to assign quotas on the basis of religion or race or color, or nationality. ... On the other hand, I do think that we ought to make an effort to give a fair chance to everyone who is qualified, not through a quota, but just look over our employment rolls, look over our areas where we are hiring people, and at least make sure we are giving everyone a fair chance, but not hard-and-fast quotas. We are too mixed, this society of ours, to begin to divide ourselves on the basis of race or coSlavery in America ended more than 150 years ago.
Neither former slaves nor slave owners are alive today. Furthermore, columnist and radio host Michael Medved says that only about 5 percent of whites have any sort of "generational" connection to slavery. "The importation of slaves came to an end in 1808 (as provided by the Constitution), a mere 32 years after independence, and slavery had been outlawed in most states decades before the Civil War," wrote Medved in 2007. "Even in the South, more than 80 percent of the white population never owned slaves. Given the fact that the majority of today's non-black Americans descend from immigrants who arrived in this country after the War Between the States, only a tiny percentage of today's white citizens -- perhaps as few as 5 percent -- bear any authentic sort of generational guilt for the exploitation of slave labor."

Republican President Abraham Lincoln, elected on an anti-slavery platform, signed the Emancipation Proclamation and led the North in its victory over the South at the cost of at least 620,000 soldiers dead on both sides. Democrats opposed the 13th Amendment, which freed the slaves, the 14th Amendment, which conferred citizenship on them, and the 15th Amendment, which gave them the right to vote."

Whenever I hear this reparations ‘chatter’, I keep wondering in my mind....what amount of money do Democrats figure they can slide on the table? A measly check for $1,500? A measly check for $15,000? You could easily walk into a Bronx neighborhood, and they might be telling their Dem congressman that $100,000 per person is the minimum....and more likely to be $250,000.
I don’t see this Democratic conversation going too far. And don’t forget, the Indians and Chinese have a sum in their mind too.
Total up all the money spend on the War on Poverty and what do you get..?
Enough money to buy ALL the stock of EVERY company on the NYSE.
And you’d have enough left over to buy EVERY acre of farmland in the USA.
I say they pay US.

I would go for it if they would take every cent over 100,000 from senators and representatives, and every elected official. Investments, savings, property. Everything.
Has Germany repaid thousands of victims of Holocaust that remain? Or that remained at any time in the last 70 years?
Next census, everyone should identify as that portion of their DNA that is black. Reparations for EVERYONE

I have a friend who is cajun black, whose family owned slaves.....how much do they get?
Will there be a reparations assist monetary award for families like mine that can prove they helped escaping slaves?
Would former slave owning families have to pay in? That’s right, a slavery assessment determined by a committee of the Black Lives Matter members.
Would Indians enslaved by Mexican landowners in Texas to California before they became states be eligible?
Every time reparations is mentioned, the ignorant fail to think through the consequences and the conversation becomes absurd.
The Black community would tear itself apart determining eligibility.
Slavery in the US was a democrat thing. The republicans freed them, so the democrats came up with Jim Crow and the KKK.
So sure, if the democrats’ guilt wants them to pay restitution, by all means they should do it. The rest of us gave up hundreds of thousands of our boys lives to free them. There is nothing owed, unless by the children of former slaves to the Republicans.

Americans died and were horribly maimed to help free slaves. That is the greatest offering one can give: to give one’s own life for others. That should have been enough as the liberty fought for and won is pure gold that keeps on giving in the USA. Obviously the wicked DNC is the party of evil that needs its slaves and sh*ts on America.

That was money that American taxpayers spent to create a FERAL ARMY that hates us.
It needs to be sufficient to express us cracker's acknowledgment of their worth as well as our culpability. Each cracker family should have to give an annual amount equal to the contribution of the snowflake negro equal to said negro's worth. I'm thinking a penny a year is generous.
Oh, and all of the negro's other handouts (welfare, affirmative action, minority business loans, minority hiring quotas, etc, etc...) are immediately terminated.

In 1860, the Democrats were the party of low taxes, low tariffs, limited government, and states’ rights. The Republicans were the party of big taxes, big tariffs, big government a strong federal government.
