The Pentagon announced Tuesday night that a directive has been signed to implement President Trump's policy barring most transgender people from serving in the military.
Under the policy, transgender people would have to serve in the gender they were assigned at birth. Service secretaries would be allowed to grant waivers on a case-by-case basis.
The policy will go into effective in 30 days, according to the memo signed by acting Deputy Defense Secretary David Norquist.
The directive is being issued after a court last week lifted the last of the orders preventing the transgender military policy from taking effect.
A federal judge in Maryland ruled he had no choice but to lift the injunction after the Supreme Court in February ruled 5-4 to lift two other holds.
The Trump administration said it planned to move forward with the policy following the judge's ruling last week.
Still, advocates for transgender troops have argued the Pentagon is still constrained by a fourth injunction, pointing to a stipulation in the order that allows for a period of time for the plaintiff to decide whether they want a rehearing in front of the courts full bench.
That 21-day period, though, ends before the memo signed Tuesday says the new policy takes effect.
Transgender troops have been serving openly since June 2016, when the Obama administration lifted the previous ban on their service.
In July 2017, Trump tweeted he would reverse the open service policy, saying he would not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.
Four lawsuit were filed against the ban, and lower courts in all four had issued injunctions blocking the policy from taking effect while the suits work their way through the court system.
In March 2018, then-Defense Secretary James Mattis released a policy that would allow transgender people to serve if they do so in their biological sex. Tuesdays directive implements the Mattis policy.
The Pentagon denies the Mattis policy is a ban, but advocates argue it effectively is, comparing it to the defunct Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy for gay, lesbian and bisexual service members.
Though courts have ruled to lift the injunctions, they have not ruled on the underlying merits of the lawsuits against the policy. Advocates are vowing to continue their fight, expressing confidence they will eventually be victorious.
Our transgender siblings-in-arms and future warriors have proven time and again that they are committed, that they are ready, and that they are able to selflessly and effectively serve our nation, OutServe-SLDN executive director Andy Blevins said in a statement. We will continue to fight until open and authentic military service is the law of the land our service members deserve it and our country needs it.
The disgraced traitor queer femipretend is the loser.
He can no longer hide behind his skirt and can be shot on the street
Good call. What strange times we’re in where this even has to be discussed.
We don’t let people into the military who have asthma. Is it unfair to people with asthma? Sure. But it’s the necessary move.
Mental health is just as important of a screening criteria as physical health. Gender dysmorphia disorder qualifies as something to screen for on mental health.
The problem as it was is that any deviant who wants to mess with their plumbing could join the military and have it paid for. My guess would be that because of that there are probably more sexually confused folks in the military than we’d suspect.
How do you “ban” something that isn’t allowed, hasn’t ever been allowed, anyway?
Or until the next Demorat president.
[ Or until the next Demorat president. ]
Yes, that’s what worries me. Because you know they’re going to do just that (and more).
Good. The last thing our troops need is to be the trenches next to somone with a mental condition.
“People with gender dysphoria have higher rates of mental health conditions. Some estimates say that 71% of people with gender dysphoria will have some other mental health diagnosis in their lifetime.”
Service secretaries would be allowed to grant waivers on a case-by-case basis. As always one unelected bureaucrat has more power that the Commander In Chief.
They can’t “go ballistic”. They live in ballistic. When they wake up in the morning, the first thing on their mind is what they will go ballistic about today. So screw ‘em. Let them ballistickize and get it out of the way, and then take your earplugs out.
They can reapply when the military is ready to enlist people with Type II diabetes and they can show they are as stable and sane as the average person with Type II diabetes.
Wrong fulcrum point if you ask me. Should be based on science. XX chromosome is female, XY is male.
Im waiting for the day at work when we get indoctrination training on gender fluidity. Then Im going to write out XX and XY for male and female plus quote the Bible. Gonna give the trainer and the audiences the fits.
The only reason trannies want in the armed forces is to get the free operation.
They have NO desire to serve the USA.
They will. And the next time a Dimocommie gets in the White House, they will throw out everything Trump has done and with those wonderful EO’s, change it all right back. They will first though, move the US embassy in Israel out of Jerusalem and to where they think it should be, Washington. Because in their beliefs, all Jews should live in NY City and “Palestine” should belong to the Arabs, not the Jews, who those fools actually believe stole it from the poor Palestinians!!!
Now playing at a Kabuki theater near you “Band of Siblings”
Everyone was assigned a SEX at birth, I’m still sticking with the old rule that the term gender only applies to pronouns and there are THREE genders, not two. Had I referred to people as being male or female GENDER in grade school I would have flunked English class.
Read any literature published prior to 1970 and you will probably never be able to find the term gender used to refer to people. That is because everyone was taught in grade school then that gender only applies to pronouns, not people and there are three genders, masculine, feminine and neuter. The word began being applied to people along about the time that Linda Ronstadt recorded, “Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me.” In that song she referred to a certain man as being, “a credit to his gender.” I was taught before puberty that referring to anyone as being of male or female gender would get me a big red F in English.
