Filipino workers were the best. We’d tag out ABT’s at 5pm, they would pull it out, refurbish or replace every part and have it reinstalled by 5am the next morning. The roving Electrician would escort to and from ABT. Each ABT job was a case of 36 cans of OJ (8oz cans). We got our entire Prop Shop spray painted overnight for two 5# cans of coffee grounds. A couple days after the painting the Engineering Officer walked in the shop, asking questions about how this was done. We told him that we had a base contact, we show him what we want done, he tells us what he wants and we horse trade with other depts for the payment. But we were not going to give up his name because he has a large family to care for(prob true but we didn’t know). The EO attitude completely changed. He said, well tomorrow the Engineering Office is going to be unlocked and empty from 7-9pm. Get me a quote to paint the entire office. LOL
Two weeks later, we went to sea and the EO grabs me when I came off watch at midnite. PO XXXXXXX we need to talk, we walk into Officers Country and he needs quote for painting the Admiral’s Stateroom in a light blue and wants his stateroom done also but in white.
Lee I’ve not heard anything on the topic of recent.
I do know the Chinese are starting a new effort to take more land in another nation’s territorial waters though.
Can’t remember now if it was the Philippines or Vietnam. (perhaps more)
This should be helpful...
