Pelosi says she backs lowering voting age to 16

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) voiced her support on Thursday for lowering the federal voting age to 16, telling reporters during a press conference that doing so would be a boon to voter engagement in the U.S.

Pelosi said Thursday that lowering the voting age would drive interest in politics among younger Americans who are learning about the subject in high school. The Speaker said that changing the voting age to 16 would help drive a higher level of voter awareness and turnout.

"I myself have always been for lowering the voting age to 16," Pelosi said. "I think it's really important to capture kids when they're in high school, when they're interested in all of this, when they're learning about government, to be able to vote."

Pelosi's comments Thursday echoed those she has made previously, including in a 2015 New York Times interview in which the Speaker said she was "all for" lowering the voting age.

Pelosi told the Times that she wanted to expand voter access to 16 and 17-year-olds “because when kids are in school, they’re so interested, they’re so engaged.”

The California congresswoman supported a local ballot initiative in her home district of San Francisco in 2016 that would have lowered the voting age in municipal elections to 16, known as Proposition F, but the measure was defeated by single digits at the ballot box.

Members of Congress voted down an amendment to the Democrats' voting rights bill last Thursday that sought to lower the federal voting age to 16, an effort led by freshman Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.). Almost 130 lawmakers voted in favor of the amendment, which was described by advocates as a first of its kind proposal to make it to the...

They’ve FINALLY gotten around to allowing children to vote,

I’ve always wondered how commies can insist we MUST have “universal suffrage” yet never once talked about letting children be included.

I know, this is only 16, but to be truly universal, all humans need to be included, and you know Dems won’t be long covering that.

Why should voting be limited to American citizens living in America?

Ballots should be distributed and collected throughout the world.

If they lower the voting age to 16 then the criminal records of 16 year olds should not be protected because they are minors. In particular, a felony as a 16 year old should prohibit voting just as a felony for an adult. And 16 year olds should be tried in adult courts, not juvenile courts.

I think part of the plan is, if they can vote as full adult citizens, the radical gay wing of the democratic party can sodomize them. Look what they’re pushing to our youth. Pot, prostitution, transgenderism, radicalization. They want to make youth a real hell hole.

Let’s just go ahead and lower the voting age to SIX, right after they graduate from kindergarten.

The Scandinavian countries with their huge alcohol problems have quite conclusively proven the wisdom of the proper sequence.

People there who have caused problems with their alcohol use don’t even get to test to drive until the complete a multi-year sobriety period.

Their success at this and the reasoning behind it has been convincing to me.

Want to drive? Don’t have public intoxication incidents or get hauled to the hospital with alcohol poisoning.

"Pelosi said. "I think it's really important to capture kids when they're in high school, when they're interested in all of this, when they're learning about government, to be able to vote."

Of course. Try to capture them when they still haven't been out in the world enough to understand how manipulative and coercive what they learned in high school was. The left is going full Bolshevik, and Pelosi, for all her outrageousness, is actually one of the more 'temperate' of her party. They clearly don't give a rat's a** what half the population thinks.

Exactly.

Yet these anti-American commies will balk if we suggest we Americans vote in other countries’ elections.

I doubt a sixteen year old American who can buy booze is worried about something in the future. Glad it works for them.

That must be the age at which their leftist teachers have succeeded in brainwashing the greatest number of kids. There can be no other reason for Pelosi’s pushing for it.

Members of Congress voted down an amendment to the Democrats' voting rights bill last Thursday that sought to lower the federal voting age to 16,

When the voting age was lowered to 18, it was done by passing the 26th Amendment to the Constitution. How can they lower it to 16 by attaching the proposal as an amendment to a bill? Wouldn't that, in effect, repeal the 26th Amendment? I'm asking because I am not clear on the procedure.

BTW -- this was proposed by one of the Dems' fine new Members of Congress, Ms. Pressley of Massachusetts.

Yeah, and scientific research shows that the adolescent brain is not fully developed. How convenient, to have a captive audience of malleable minds to groom to vote dummocrap.
