The 1998 Belfast Agreement states that the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland may call such a referendum if at any time it appears likely that the majority of voters in Northern Ireland would wish to leave the United Kingdom and enter into a united Ireland.

“Someday they will be asked to decide that, and those of us, and I am one of them, who believe that the truest and best potential of this entire island and all its people will only be realised when Northern Ireland and Ireland merge, and emerge as a modern, European democracy, inclusive of all, respectful of all,” she said.

“Long before any future referendum goes live, we need to do what Brexit has abjectly failed to do.

"Professor McAleese claimed that Irish unity has focused on crude numbers of Catholics and nationalists 'over and against' Protestants and unionists.

"And it has focused on the coming demographic changes which will in a relatively short time, give Northern Catholics a voting majority," she added.

This would be catastrophic; Northern Ireland is one of the last places in Western Europe that doesn’t have “gay marriage” and strictly limits abortion.

Abortion might stop that.

You can’t help but wonder just how “united” the United Kingdom is. Not very, in my opinion.

Ha, ha. A democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch. Sure, everybody will be represented.

It does seem as though large swaths of it have greater allegiance to Brussels than to London.

Well, isn’t this interesting. An Irish American who apparently supports the continuation of the UK Union to protect the autonomy of NI’s domestic policy, and I’m a Briton who has come to sympathise with the idea of handing Northern Ireland to the Republic in order to remove the barrier to a genuine Brexit without the complications of the border. Northern Ireland is the excuse the remainers, the EU and the globalists need to keep us locked in the EU, Nancy Pelosi threatened Britain with a refusal to negotiate a free trade deal with the UK on the issue of a ‘hard border’. It is obvious that the UK can never be a free country with the Northern Irish millstone around our necks. Since Northern Ireland voted ‘remain’ we can use that as the excuse to hand it over to the Republic so they can stay in the EU whilst the rest of us regain our liberty and sovereignty, and if there is a part of you that wants eventually for NI to unite with the Republic, supporting Brexit is an essential step because there is no way the EU will want to make it easier for Britain to vote to break free again by handing over a remain stronghold within the UK and remove a complication that will make it much easier to argue for a hard border with the EU.
