The sports teams involved should be forced to compete using the phony athletes.

How was Sandy able to get in College?

Hispanic Name + Affirmative action science(!) award winner = free boat. Throw in social promotion and you have a degree in economics and foreign affairs.

She's complaining because the kids whose parents pay their way in compete with the affirmative action kids like her getting a free boat. Hey, freeloading twit, who the hell do you think is paying for your "free" ride?

Which would only punish the innocent. Nice thinking. The athletic teams were the target of this scam. Slots set aside for athletes were sold for the financial benefit of the ringers, at cost to athletes and teams. Since nobody cares how the fencing team or rowing fares, preferred admissions are easy targets for venality. This is on the bribe takers, not the teams.

“The freshman congresswoman said the U.S. justice system “criminalizes poverty + disproportionately targets race, yet routinely pardons large-scale crimes of wealth and privilege.”

“Moments like these tell us it’s less a justice system, and more a class enforcement system,” she tweeted.”

I actually agree with her issue against the treatment of those with “wealth and privilege” and that “it’s less a justice system, and more a class enforcement system.”

How can she be correct about anything?

You are wrong:

“...the sentencing guideline is four to 10 months of jail time, prosecutors “will make a recommendation for the lower end of that range and will allow Huffman to argue for a 0-6 month range.”

They are going for time LESS THAN the sentencing guideline, according to the article.

For that matter, I understand there should have been other charges considered and included, which were apparently dropped to make this liberal less likely to do any time.

You would have gotten the full set of charges, with nothing ignored.

Feel special?

Wardaddy’s take is wrong.

The article actually says the guidelines require more time and it appears some legitimate charges were dropped because she’s famous.

“How was Sandy able to get in College?”
The requirements:
Pulse
Money (has credit)
No other requirements necessary. Everybody gets in.

AOC slams nothing Fox needs to quit it with the “Slam” references when it comes to this bar back unless we’re talking about shots.

Sign onto any county court system and peruse how any case proceeds. You will see most charges dismissed and a misdemeanor substituted for an original felony. A plea or a pretrial diversion takes place. It’s SOP. Otherwise the whole court system sinks under the workload.

A plea deal to avoid these perps hiring the best lawyers their money can buy, tying up the courts for a long, long time makes sense ... provided some real pain is part of the deal. Like real community service, not doing a PSA but a weekend or two picking up poop in San Fran, funding a scholarship for the real victims:those edged out for admission.

Prisons are so overpopulated in California that either she won’t serve or it will be extremely short no matter time given.

It’s a federal crime. She wouldn’t be in CA in all likelihood.

“What is happening to those who took the bribes? I’m not hearing much about them. No names or shame for them, it would seem so far.”

Wikipedia has your answers, if you missed it on the evening news.

“A total of 50 people have been charged in the investigations.[64] This number includes 33 parents of college applicants[41] and 11 named collegiate coaches or athletic administrators from eight universities.[13][64][65] Three additional universities are involved, but no staff members from those schools have been directly named or implicated.[8][9][66]”

Names include William Rick Singer, purported college counselor, and author of self-help books for college admission, Mark Riddell, a Harvard alumnus and former director of college entrance exams at IMG Academy, and Steven Masera and Mikaela Sanford, who worked for Singer, the architect of the scam.

There’s a long list of people at eleven different universities who’ve been canned and/or been indicted.

I think legitimate charges were dropped because she cut a plea deal.

That’s pretty much how prosecutors work. Every day.

She also fessed up to her guilt quickly and looked genuinely remorseful. Paid 15k for one kid no photos. Now Lori is another story.

I am dealing with this right now.

I have a 20 year old child trying to get into grad school.
My child has a 4.0 GPA in undergraduate classes at the University of NH. My child’s curriculum is biomedical technology/engineering. This means a lot of higher math and science courses.

My child tried to get into summer work study programs at several Ivy league Universities =, plus Georgia Tech, John’s Hopkins, etc. He was not selected for any of these.

You may be able to guess his problem. HE is a caucasian anglo saxon heterosexual male from a middle class family.
We are not poor. We are not rich. We are not a minority race. He is not a female.
