Assembly Passes National Popular Vote Bill(NEVADA)

Nevada could joins 14 other states and Washington, D.C. to award its electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote during a presidential election. The Assembly passed AB186 in a narrow vote of 23-17.

"I think it's going to increase voter participation," Assem. Tyrone Thompson, D-North Las Vegas said. "This is where we would know that people really will fell like that vote counts even more. It's just that more reason to go to the polls and to make sure that your voice is your vote."

Nevada has six electoral votes, which go to the candidate who gets the most votes in our state. If the bill passes the Senate and gets Governor Sisolak's signature, the votes would go to the candidate who got the most votes, nationally. Some say a popular vote would give states with larger populations more control, and candidates would ignore smaller states like Nevada.

"If we go to a national popular vote, why would they even bother coming here? Our constitution says we're a republic, not a democracy," Assem. Jim Wheeler, R-Minden said. "I voted 'No' on the national popular vote because I don't want Nevada to be a flyover state."

Well, with the current "rulers" we now have, this is to be expected. Heads up NV.

I am from Colorado and I am trying to see if the good citizens of my state would support a State Constitutional amendment that would assign electors according to the district plan.

To wit:
one elector to the majority (50+%) winner for each congressional district
one elector to the candidate that wins the most districts
one elector to the candidate that wins the most votes.

It might be possible to overturn the state legislator via a citizens supported constitutional amendment.

Can’t wait until President Trump wins the popular vote and they burn this idea down.

I am going to so LOVE when in 2020 these states, who will likely go D in their popular votes, will then have to have the EC votes for TRUMP... The lawsuits that they will then launch to try to STOP them from following their own passed laws, by the same folks who passed and pushed for them will be delicious to watch.

With our current cabal of Vegas dems in charge and the short legislative sessions we have in NV, it would be a tough row to hoe at this point,

This is not in Nevada’s best interests. Under this scheme the president would be selected by Los Angeles and New York City. This does not serve a state that earns a goodly chunk of its living mining, farming and ranching, all things that the people in LA and NYC depend on but hold in utter contempt.

Same for Colorado, but it might be worthwhile to execute a recall on a couple of state senators. Not that it would reverse the law, but would work to take the legislation out of “rubber stamp” mode.

Now if we could get the state constitution amended, that would be great!

Yes, I think this could turn out to burn the Democrats when Trump wins the popular vote and then gets, by Democrat-inspired laws, almost or even all of the electoral college vote. Imagine him thus winning DC? Maybe get a full 50-state sweep?

So these 14 states are no longer part of the Republic of the United States then? Perhaps their votes shouldn’t be counted at all then.

Oh, and they will, because to their infantile brains anything that's expedient to their immediate desires is right.

Generally, laws have to have some practical effect in order to make it a court case. The state laws are vaporware so far.

If some effect is imminent, it’s possible the USSC could preemptively make an ‘ex parte’ ruling, but likely it will await a normal suit after the laws change state outcomes. Such a suit would be expedited as an emergency.

How “delicious” will it be when the courts allow them to get away with it. Vacant federal seats in Massachussetts are filled only by Rat governors; any GOP gov is not allowed to do so. Also see how Torricelli’s withdraw after the deadline for other candidates to enter the race was handled.

Rats don’t care about laws nor principles, they just want power.

Mrs rktman showed it to me last night on her facebook page while we were at a jam session and I found it this morning and thus posted it. Bullys gotta bully, With sleazy sissypants in the Gov mansion. Does he spend any time there I wonder? Vegas is so much more awesomer than yucky northern Nevada and podunk Carson City. :-)

I’m not convinced the Supreme Court would stop it.
The Constitution gives state legislatures wide latitude in determining how a state’s EVs are cast.
