A more effective idea is to lower the speed limit to 35 MPH and coordinate the traffic lights. People don’t mind driving a bit slower if they don’t have to stop and wait at EVERY SINGLE LIGHT.

I have an idea!

Let's save money, and gasoline, and reduce wear and tear and maintenance costs on the roads !

Let's make the entire CA-OR-WA-NM-AZ speed limit 55 mph!

With a name like “Vision Zero” you just know it’s some kind of authoritarian power grab.

How about banning killer self-driving cars? Ban killer illegal alien drivers? Bet illegal aliens make up a majority of pedestrian deaths. Also, how about revoking licenses of bad drivers (those getting repeated tickets, etc.). And permanently revoking licenses of DWI drivers. Fix these things.

That is, unless this is simply a money making scheme.

Vision Zero is nothing but an Green New Deal attempt to do away with driving altogether by making it so dang maddeningly slow and financially expensive, that people give up in frustration- It’s the ‘green new deal’ in disguise- count on it- After they lower it to 15, and increase fines for awhile while they collect all that ‘free money’ from drivers, they will claim it’s still not enough and lower it again, and increase fines again- The goal is to cause enough frustration and financial pain that folks stop driving-

Lower speed limits to a crawl, and install automated traffic speed cameras.

Instant revenue.

They could try shooting people who drive in downtown Phoenix but that was already tried in Chicago.
It didn’t work there either as people still speed in Chicago.

It’s a lot of fun when they reduce Lanes also and then put barriers in your way so you can have broken tires and rims slow everybody down they’ll take a four-lane highway turn it into a two-lane highway road with barriers and circles

Outlaw all POVs including bicycles.
Everybody walks, uses public transit or gets out.
The place would become a paradise!

Sal and I worked open houses together at new home subdivisions in the Phoenix area for John Hall real estate in the mid-80's.

Since it was just the two of us most of the time, we got to know each other pretty well. Even back then, he was interested local politics and I could tell he'd do well.

Sal is a great guy, a consummate professional and honest. But how he became a politician with these laudable traits, I'll never know. :-)

Sounds like the Left in Phoenix is trying to get rid of autos. Never happen. The metropolitan area is spread over 100 miles. The heat can be deadly in the summer.

The Phoenix metro area is not walking friendly. It's a car city. And anybody who lives there, knows this.

If one looks up “Urban Sprawl” in the dictionary, a map of the Metro Phoenix area appears. I haven't lived in Phoenix for many years, but I can't imagine the traffic problems on Camelback or Indian School with a 25 mph speed limit. Nor can I imagine the pollution added to the “Brown Cloud” with traffic “moving” at just above an idle.
