LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - U. S. Senator Richard Lugar died Sunday morning, according to a release from the Lugar Center.
Lugar was a senator from 1977 to 2013, before that serving as Mayor of Indianapolis from 1968 to 1975.
After his career in politics, Lugar continued work through the Lugar Center, focused on global food security and aid effectiveness.
He was a professor at Indiana University and led the Richard G. Lugar Symposium for Tomorrows Leaders at the University of Indianapolis. He held 46 honorary degrees from universities around the country, and Queen Elizabeth bestowed upon him the rank of honorary Knight Commander.

Mayor Pete Buttgood called him a “mentor” - that should explain a lot...
Sen. Lugar will be missed. Period.
He will be missed. He will be missed so dearly.
I wonder if there will be a state funeral, if Trump, Pence will attend or if there will be a televised funeral mass.
He will be missed here.
By, by turncoat.
He didnt stand for anything much.
I called his office once to give them my opion and was told that he did not care about my opinion. They said since I helped him win office he was there to give HIS opinion NOT mine. I will not miss him. He really stood for nothing.
At least they were honest. That bullshit about them being “Public Servants” ends after election day. In their mind[s], they are the masters and the public is the slave[s].
Honorable but i won’t miss him.
He seemed to be pretty good early on, but as he aged, his priorities no longer seemed to match mine very well anymore. May he RIP
I had supper with him, and his wife, many years ago at one of his old Indiana friend’s houses in Virginia. He was a gentleman.
I do not understand why some Freepers insist on speaking cruelly - anonymously - viciously - immediately upon death - of the dead.
Fascinating how I make a comment about how an up and coming gay presidential Democrat candidate who hates Trump, Pence and God but thought Lugar was a mentor and Im supposedly making a vicious attack.
May former Senator Lugar rest forever, in the sheltering arms of our ETERNAL SAVIOR.
Yours, Darla & TMN78247
A decent Senator and may he RIP.
IMO, a good mayor, started off reasonably well as a Senator and went downhill, as so many do...
Loogie is getting @ss-raped in Hell by Islamophiles.
Another RINO ex-Senator assumes room temperature.

Bill Clinton would be great to have beers and watch football with. But that doesn’t mean that I’ll be happy with the country he’s leaving for my kids. Probably the same for Teddy Kennedy.
In other words, if THEY decide they want to run or at least significantly affect the lives of my family, then they are FAIR GAME, at least in my book, alive or dead.
