They’re paying in the form of lost trade.

Now if Trump would move on to taxing the remittances that are 1/3 of Mexico’s economy that’d really hurt them!!!

Not possible in some cases currently.
Not saying there won’t be other options in the future but as of now there are some components and materials that are not available from other sources.
Managaing a supply chain and vetting new suppliers is a very time consuming and resource heavy task.

Given import lead times orders are placed well in advance of when things are actually needed and carry a penalty for cancelation.

Whatever aid we give to those countries should be oriented toward eliminating the criminal gangs and the politicians who allow them to thrive, no doubt with bribes.

I conceded in last post that you are the expert...on Law? Constitution? (tho I don’t know that for a fact and you ofer nothing in your profile to indicate that). But I said, “Fine...forget the remittance tariff.

However, Eisenhower declared a National Emergency. And he also implemented Project Wetback. Those are both in the same ballpark as what I am suggesting.

By October when the tariff is 25%, another 500,000 plus the unknown number (some say 2 or 3 times as many according to experts - border patrol) will have crossed if nothing changes...

That’s one way to get Mexico to pay for the wall.

I’d like to see a 100% tax on remittances to Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, etc.

Project Wetback is a markedly different thing than the executive branch enacting a tax on U.S. companies making financial transactions (remittances). Even with that, Project Wetback would be violating current U.S. law on asylum.

The problem isn’t your suggestions being bad ideas, they are all good ideas and such ideas are necessary. However, current U.S. law enacted by Congress and signed by Bush makes these things impossible to implement if you follow the law. Trump does not have the support within his own party to openly violate current asylum or immigration law. He’ll, his own party doesn’t support the tariffs, which are practically the only thing he can legally do. He can close the border entirely. But that would undoubtedly result in his impeachment and removal from office.

We are boxed in by our own government, both political parties and the Deep State, all of whom probably desire the end of American sovereignty. All these need to be defeated and removed before any good options can be implemented.

He already threatened to do that. Then he backed off and gave Mexico a year...A YEAR...12 x 100,000 x 3 that is a lot of “refugees”

You are worried about his impeachment as am I. Some of the media are indicating a shift in polling and that Dems are now seriously pursuing it...so it may be inevitable.

IF that is the case, perhaps has they say go Big? rather than get impeached over non-existent obstruction and collusion...

South America is literally being emptied out and we are the “beneficiaries.” It is as bad or worse than Europe.

Forget about gradually increasing it.

We are getting run over.

25% for openers, and 10% more for each new caravan!

5% is nothing. Don’t fall for this nonsense the MSM is feeding the public.

I forgot to add that from the polling I have read, US citizens support the wall, stopping the tsunami of people, drugs, sex-traffic at the border. So I don’t think Dems would risk impeaching Trump for actions taken at the border or otherwise to stop what has escalated into a crisis.

Freegards.

I don’t think our government establishment cares one whit what the people think or want. The people have shown them over and over -literally hundreds of times each voting period- that they have nothing to fear from the people. They believe they manipulate the voters and control them, not the other way around.

If they get any opening, they’ll move to take out Trump and Barr and shut down the threatened transparency that endangers “the-powers-that-shouldn’t-be”.

I believe Mueller gave them that opening this week from all the reports and interview I have watched.

So again, I think Trump should go BIG...Declare a national emergency, bring down National Guard, and perhaps shut down the border.

These are legal means that he is not taking. If he is re-elected, how many will have come over the border in the meantime...And if he is re-elected, even if he gets House and Senate, no guarantees...He had them the first 2 years...nothing happened.

Good discussion, but I guess we just disagree.

He needs to do it now! Mexico has been asked to cooperate with us at least once already. This isn’t coming out of the blue. No need to give them even more time to cross our borders with Mexico standing by doing nothing to stop it. It will be just 10 more days of this crap. Put the pressure on now, President Trump.

“He had them the first 2 years...nothing happened.”

Because the Republican Party is every bit as much against him, and us, as theDemocrat is...or almost as much anyway.

Exactly. So what is he going to be able to do in a second term that he could not do NOW?
