President Trump on Tuesday was set to hold a press conference with outgoing U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May, hours after he told her to “stick around” to complete a long-awaited trade deal with the U.S.

"It's been an honor to work with you. I don't know what your timetable is, but... stick around, let's do this deal,” Trump told May at a breakfast meeting with senior leaders, according to The Sun.

May will step down from Number 10 on Friday after intense criticism of her handling of Britain’s departure from the European Union. Britain can only make trade deals after it leaves the E.U. -- scheduled to happen in October.

We could very easily work the UK into the US/Mex/Can trade and commerce treaty. US could make entry fairly easy for Brits, and return the favor for Americans entering there. Whole lot that we could do and be a huge investor/partner in the UK.

Agreed. Admitting the UK to said treaty would do no end of good for the UK and no little benefit for the US.

Link doesn’t include the choice “stick around” quote. This one does:

Come to think of it, a US-UK trade pact might get the corporate Republicans off Trump’s butt...

Trump is just being nice...why would anyone want that incompetent Tory train wreck to stick around?

“Britain can only make trade deals after it leaves the E.U. — scheduled to happen in October.”

Nonsense. The Brits can make a trade deal anyone. Perhaps implementation must wait until Brexit not the parameters and conditions of a trade deal.

Why not get all that done now so when Brexit happens the new trade deal takes effect immediately?

... tells her to ‘stick around’ for trade deal

Unless the trade deal will be done by Friday that's going to be hard for her to do.

May the trade deal be so good that Britain won’t miss the EU after Brexit.

That's one of the reasons to get out of the EU, the other is national sovereignty

No but the parliament was most certainly behind it, and they speak for the people.
