Do not wake the sleeping giant.

The sleeping giant is Uncle Sam passed out drunk on the bar room floor. Foreign powers line up to kick Sam in the nuts until he staggers to his feet and smashes up the bar. Later Uncle Sam is beset with regret, pays to fix the bar and buys the house a round of drinks until the cycle repeats.

This thread reminds somewhat of my recent visit through Ridgecrest last week. It's surprising - and a bit amusing - how blind some people can be to affairs taking place out of their own personal event horizon.

Point being: is anyone among the 5-10% educated upper-class in Mexico city discussing this issue, and other world affairs, as if they have some say, influence or effect? No, they are not. So, why will the USA, which within just a generation or so will have effectively become demographically North Mexico, have any say, influence or effect?

The reason it reminds of Ridgecrest ie China Lake, is because all day long the fighters are out practicing, weapons research, development and testing proceeds apace. To add flavor, defense contracts are in/out of the hotels all day long, going to conferences, arranging meetings and in general acting very purposeful, as they have important jobs to do.

And yet no one seems to realize that the USA has built this gigantic, useless Maginot Line that will never be brought to bear against a 1st line adversary for the simple reason that all they have to do is be patient and wait just a few more years.

And so it goes @ FR - a lot of hurrumping, and a lot of vague 'what we need to do' talk, but absolutely -0- introspection as to our true capabilities. Every single day the USA becomes weaker - collective IQ is dropping, but more importantly physical stature and the emotional focus and discipline necessary to be applied to difficult tasks.

But you guys, go on discussing your parlor room debates. Out in the real world, where real events are taking place, the clock is ticking. All it will take is the fateful failed confrontation, the grand revealing of the spent force that follows Egypt, Greece, Rome and GB into the historical archives. And then what? Then the loss of reserve status, and the $ X trillion debt becomes null and void, with no more deficit spending available.

And then? Just like Mexico - no social service, no (public) security, just a bandit state that benefits the upper echelon that can afford person protection. And every day that border remains open, and everyday both the State and Justice departments can engage in open mutiny without fear of retribution means the clock is ticking.

And which adversary reject wholesale 'diversity is our strength'. LOL - sheeit the Chinese are probably the ones financing the propaganda campaign. When the fateful time comes, they're gonna just waltz right in - of course after purchasing all the prime real estate beforehand.

And then the globalist dream of taking out the last vestige of freedom & liberty will have been accomplished. But in the mean time, beat those chests and dream of Iran and the "big posture".

“....policy of “proportionate response” ....”

Yes but think about why responding in that matter happened!

The notion of “proportionate response” grew out of Cold War defense thinking. You only responded in kind to give both sides a chance to think it over before you ratchet it up to the next level and you continue until the opponent stops. While doing this you hope at some point wiser heads prevail & “reasonableness is reached” before you reach up to the nuclear response level. However as in all things government, thinking is actively discouraged even when required particularly when you got a past recipes of responses to check off. So they hit with a feather, you use the same feather or if you are really bold a different colored feather, if you’re reckless two feathers! And so on!

“Hawaii was not a state at the time. “

So? It was US territory

Actually, I wrote the reply as a vanity but screwed up the posting and the body of the vanity never appeared. The rump vanity was accordingly pulled but within the hour this thread appeared so I posted the long reply.

I enjoy writing replies (actually I dictate them) because it structures my thinking. If they distress you just use your mouse and skip right over them and you will no doubt feel much relieved.

What of it? Cold War defense thinking had only 2 sides. There are more “sides” now and the Cold War more or less “ended” almost 30 years ago.

The Mexicans are, I’m pretty certain, ecstatic they have managed to export some 30 million of their poorest people to the US. So that 5-10% (the Rabi Blancos) have been pretty happy with the status quo for decades. Imagine, they have successfully exported a good deal of their “petty crime” (and ALL of their “social welfare”) and the remaining narcotrafficantes are only a problem when you fall into the hands of the ones you weren’t supporting. In return they were able to import millions of “middle class” (for Mexico) industrial jobs from the US. Jobs in factories they own and profit from (I suspect in partnership with Senator Grassely seeing how quickly he squealed when HIS pig was on the block).

I suspect that when our “elites” consider Mexico they are quite jealous.

Clearly, technology makes the world turn over faster than ever so our enemies can hope for a reshuffle at least every four years creating an urgency never dreamed of by the founders in the age of sail.

The fact that 50% of the country supports a political party which cares little for our national interests but would sacrifice everything if they could to unseat this president makes the world spin even faster.

Yes ultimately 2 sides - USSR vs USA.

Of course there were proxy states & proxy wars but those were your ratchet levels. behind it all two sides us & the USSR - bipolar world.

Today is back to the olden days of a many multipolar world.
Not every fight is ours nor should it be. We do need to be discerning though because some fights are our fights even when “prima facie” it doesn’t seem so.

Iraq was bad only because we didn’t finish the job.

We wasted several trillion on that sh*thole, and it's still a sh*thole.

Very true words. Knowing the difference is the challenge. And that's why corrupt intelligence agencies are so dangerous. What did the intelligence agencies say about Libya? Benghazi? What did they tell Bush about Iraq? What did they say about 9/11? What did they say about the Shaw, the Ayatollah? How far back does it go? How does a President know if he's being handed garbage?

would a war or serious threat of war cost Trump reelection?

If Trump goes to war with Iran then he hands the 2020 election over to the dems, simple as that.

Ok, I’m not disagreeing with the result as much as I am disagreeing with the effort we put into the actions we took.

Done properly and absent Obama handing Iraq to Issis by announcing our withdrawal a full yr in advance I believe the outcome would have been different.

Not our circus, not our monkeys. These vessels were Japanese and Norwegian. Let them attack Iran. Unless our vessels or assets are attacked, we should stay out.

That doesn’t say that we shouldn’t have a few trolling missions ongoing, however...

We have enough oil to satisfy our own needs... and enough to sell to real friends of our country.

Iran's not our problem.

Let the Sauds or Israelis take them if they want to. Iran's not worth one drop of American blood - either are the other countries in that region. NOT OUR PROBLEM

Yes, we will protect Israel - the only democracy in the region... that's it.

If Iran attacks the US homeland then nuke all of 'em. Other than that let the ME fight their own battles ... or not. Whatever...

We can't protect our own borders? Our military sits on their hands when it comes to protecting our borders. Until that changes, NOT A DIME TO PROTECT OTHERS...

Just warn them, and at the next terrorist action put smoking holes in the ground where their military bases used to be.

Then let the Iranian students do what they wanted to do 10 years ago before Odumbass took over and squelched their efforts.
