President Trump announced Saturday that a planned mass roundup of illegal immigrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is being delayed for two weeks, in the hope that a bipartisan solution to the border crisis can be reached.

“At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border,” he tweeted.

“If not, Deportations start!” he added.

He is being reasonable, but not giving up the plan.

Challenge Congress to do at least 1/2 of what Mexico and Central America is doing and promise to point out the 50% of where they are lacking and the folks that are up for Re-Election.

I figured it was a feint, but the deportations will still have to be done whether they are visa overstays or border jumpers.

If he can use the threat to get congress off it’s arse and revamp the immigration laws and close the loopholes to discourage more of the same that’s great.

But those here illegally have got to be deported, not given amnesty.

Might as well wait two weeks since everyone knew it was coming.

Congress will fail like they usually do, and then back to it.

I had guessed that his announcement of imminent roundups was a negotiating ploy with Congress. I am waiting to see what comes from his apparent vacillation on the Iran drone shootdown. He did NOT just “back down.” Something is in the works.

You mean the ones that believe enforcing the law is not a bargaining chip? How stupid are you trumpbots?

Yup, Trump is wimping out - NOT! This is the first President I've seen in my life since Pres. Reagan who knows how to play chess, rather than checkers.

I don’t hold my breath for Congress to solve problems, only creating them.

No, reasonable would have been acting on his campaign promises on this issue from the start. Not naming three consecutive anti-Trumpers to run DHS against all his stated immigration goals. Declaring the emergency we have and doing what’s needed with his executive powers from the start. Not sticking his feckless, Manhattan Democrat SIL in to give still more to the Dems on the issue this winter. Etc. Etc.

Empty threats and promises while letting in more, kicking out fewer, workplace raiding fewer, etc., than Obama.

Enough already!

I agree that Trump hasn’t given anything up, but perhaps he should have taken the position that there will be no slowdown in deportations until Congress passes a plan that Trump’s base will approve.

They haven’t been able to fix this in 30 years..

2 weeks won’t lead to anything.

let the deporations commence.

But they can’t say that he didn’t give them a chance to solve the problem.

I am all for deporting the Democrats too.

That’s exactly what he shouldn’t be doing—using his own inaction on the issue to run against Congress in 2020!

We don’t want a campaign issue, we want what was promised three years ago actually acted upon. There’s not a sentient being in the country who doesn’t already know the Dems’ position on this stuff.

Well if he was doing something OUTSIDE of enforcing existing US laws, then it could be used as a chip.

How does NOT holding those accountable for breaking the law become a “bargaining chip”?

I boxed.

Enough feints and you know the guy just doesn’t want to mix it up with you and his feints don’t matter as you pound at his ribs.

Gives the illegals more of a chance to hide. He needs to carry out the deportations without publicly announcing it. He’s doing nothing wrong by following the laws that the idiots in Congress wrote.
