We did something like that for a 14 inch LX-200 that was donated to our club. One must do what one must do!

Yep.

Btw, my interest has always been centered around AP. Mine is on a permanent mount inside a small observatory and my interest in AP is a big reason I had ruled out dobs. Another issue I had with dobs, even with larger apertures, with a permanent mount, with moderate atmospheric light pollution, images are significantly washed out. One way I had to get around that was through AP imaging, allowing the magic of the camera followed by processing to cut through some of the pollution, in combination with LP filters etc. This way I could try to squeeze out as much data as possible.

If I decide to get another scope one day, it might be an APO on a GEM. My only hang up with those are they're terribly expensive for a quality scope not to mention the GEM. But they're much better suited for AP.

Now if I ever get to really dark skies, I would definitely consider a dob strictly for viewing through the eyepiece. With dobs you can get a lot of aperture for not a lot of money.

Or maybe a Planewave when I win the lotto!☺
