Not enough! The census is what is used to determine representation as well as electoral vote power. It would be great to know actual counts, but knowing is only half the goal.
Right. The ACS, which is conducted continuously, probably gives at least as good numbers as the full census, but this isn't about knowing who's a citizen, it's about shifting the political field.
Anyone can write anything on census piece of paper. Fraud reigns supreme there. It’s no secret. As opposed to the hard data which can be used to support all types of actions. In addition, the data could be a real eyeopener for those who still cling to the BS 12 million number theyve been parading around for decades.
Example:
1. Where were you born?
2. Were you or are you to be naturalized?
3. Are you a legal immigrant?
Etc.
Ascertaining the citizenship status goes into the question of calculating the APPORTIONMENT POPULATION. That's the official term.
Only citizens are entitled to representation in Congress.
The Apportion Population determines the number of seats allocated to each state.
The Constitution does not mandate how the Apportionment Population is to be formulated for calculation.
In effect POTUS is saying that the Apportionment Population will be estimated from known federal records and we can be assured those records will not allow illegals to be included in that apportionment calculation.
If Pelosi and he Democrats try to stop Commerce from developing estimation algorithms based on federal records, she will need to pass a law which she will never be able to do.
However, this estimation curve ball must not set a precedent. After the 2020 elections, relying on the GOP to take back the House and hold the Senate, there must be a law authorizing the citizenship question just to clarify so that the shenanigans of Justice Roberts and the Democrats cannot again try to skew the Apportionment Population to illegal populations to further their hold on power.
I posted this earlier on another thread on this subject.
“There appears to be a misconception on how the citizenship information is used. In almost every voting rights and redistricting cases I have read, (at the circuit court level, trial court level), there is a fight over the voting age population, (VAP), numbers. The only citizenship information available to date is the ACS survey which goes out to around one in six households and then is extrapolated to determine the VAP for the district in litigation. The trial court fight frequently is over the accuracy of this information. Using a combined data bases from all government agencies the DOJ will have a better picture of what the actual VAP is. Dems dont want there to be an accurate count because they would then lose many of these cases.”
Another positive for this action is that it allows for the agencies to identify identity theft and fraud on programs requiring citizenship to access the benefits. It may, if not stopped by the courts, allow for the IRS and SSA records to be merged for tax fraud and identity theft prosecutions.
Use this process to collect the IDs of the millions of illegals, start deporting them BEFORE THE CENSUS, many of the rest remaining wont fill out the census...
The question Trump wanted on the Census was informational. If they checked noncitizen, that would not have meant they are necessarily illegal. There are millions of resident aliens in this country who are legal. My sister in law is from Australia, who has chosen to not become a citizen of the US and is happy with the decision.
Perhaps the thinking is if they are illegal aliens, they just won't return the form and won't be counted, but I don't think that is necessarily true either.
If you don't return a form, then someone comes looking for you and all they need to know is how many people live at the address. If no one answers the question at the address, they ask neighbors or other others to determine the number. I don't think it would make a difference either way.
Trump wanted an official number of non citizens in this country, which would have been interesting but not necessarily signaling how many are illegal.
