Man who called cops on black women golfers offers ‘insulting’ free lessons as settlement [Trunc]

An offer has been made to settle a legal dispute over an incident at a York County golf course that made national headlines. But that offer isn’t likely to settle anything any time soon.

When police were called about five black women playing at the Grandview Golf Course on April 21, 2018, the complaint alleged against them was that they were playing too slowly.

This claim, refuted by other golfers playing behind the women, did not result in any charged being filed. The group of women then filed a lawsuit in response, alleging that the call to police was due to racial discrimination.

According to the York Daily Record, Grandview’s settlement offer in the lawsuit is free golf lessons with Steve Chronister, the man who called the police and father of one of Grandview’s owners, to “improve their golf game.”

Myneca Ojo, mayor of Hanover and one of the plaintiffs in the case, referred to the settlement offer as “insulting,” as did fellow plaintiff Sandra Thompson, according to the York Daily Record.

The lawsuit was filed in June of 2018, with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Committee investigating the case.

Ojo and Thompson were with three other golfers - Karen Crosby, Carolyn Dow and Sandra Harrison - on the day the police were called. All five were members of the country club.

I missed this one.
$10 says they weren’t waddling fast enough.
Guys should have just asked if they could “play through” the Fat Five, and be done with it.
Calling the police was dumb.

Sounds one way, but often turns out another.

Napa Valley WINE TRAIN imbroglio.

They got on, got drunk and noisy as hell, were repeatedly asked to settle down, didn't.

Got thrown off the train, pissed as hell, IMMA SUE..!

Media-savvy, activist eggplant lawyer instantly made it alllll about race, race race:

They got $20 million.

Steve Chronister was one of the most useless public officials of all times.

He was a full time golfer, part-time Realtor, and spare time County Commissioner elected mainly because (as many little old ladies told me at the polls) “he has a nice smile”.

That grin couldn’t save Chronister’s political hindmost parts when he broke ranks with the GOP to endorse Tommie (”the Commie”) Wolf for Governor.

The GOP dropped him like a hot potato. He ran as an independent that year and came in dead last.

He tried running in the GOP Primary for Commissioner this year and came in near the bottom, and probably pulled enough votes from incumbent Chris Reilly to tip the nomination to Ron Smith. Or maybe it was a negative coattail effect since Reilly and Chronister had served together for several terms.

Of course the other side has its charm, too. Sandra Thompson has had many failed campaigns for a seat on the Court of Common Pleas. She won the Democratic primary this time...as she has before.

The more she can keep milking the Grandview incident the more free name recognition she can garner.

As Shakespeare wrote, “a plague on both your houses”.

The guy looks old enough to know that slow play isn’t a crime, and the slow-play complaint goes back to the very beginning of golf, when the slow playing interfered with archery practice.

Forensic meteorology helps to put the incident in context.

Understand: I am NOT defending S.C. who I have long considered to be the east end of a westbound horse.

On the day in question there was a very deep frost. The golf course could not start any foresomes until after it had melted. So, they were behind Schedule...and more players = more $$$.

Then this foursome becomes a fivesome...and the rest is history

Calling the POLICE because someone's playing golf too slow? What a bunch of beta males.

How about calling the golf pro or the country club management to say, Hey, y'all need to speed up a little bit.

I’m guessing the slow play was not actually WHY they called the cops.

They probably asked them to speed up and immediately got the type of ghetto-centric tongue-lashing that in that culture is pretty standard at the swap-meet but is utterly unknown around a countryclub.

THAT is probably why they called the cops.

The guy looks old enough to know that slow play isn’t a crime He was a golf pro before entering politics and never let the responsibilities of public office get in the way of his game.

Since when do clubs allow a fivesome?

That's like calling the cops because Burger King didn't get your order right. If I were the cops I would have been ticked off!

Makes as much sense as sentencing him to be their butler.

Which, come to think of it, is usually the way these things play out.

Is racial discrimination, per se, a crime? I know it can be used as an enhancement for an existing crime, but not a crime itself.

Still, I think calling management first would have been a better idea, then let them call the cops.

I feel sorry for the officer(s) who had to take that call.
