Hurricane Barry weakened Saturday to a tropical storm as it came ashore with sustained winds measuring 75 mph (120.7 km/hour) along the Louisiana coast west of New Orleans.
The winds quickly dropped to 70 mph (112.6 km/hour), bringing Barry down from a Category 1 hurricane to a tropical storm.
However, flooding caused by the storm is still "life-threatening," the National Weather Service warned.
The storm could bring between 10-20 inches (25.4-50.8) of rain by Sunday evening, with some areas receiving up to 25 inches (63.5 cm), USA Today reported. According to NBC News, the storm is expected to turn north-northwest Saturday night, heading due north on Sunday, by which time it is expected to weaken to a tropical depression.
According to CBS News, the US Coast Guard rescued at least 12 people amid floodwaters in Louisiana, and 70,000 people are without power: 67,000 in Louisiana and 3,000 in Mississippi.

An early track prediction I saw had him, er, it, petering out in Memphis.
the corrupt media desperately wanted a Katrina-like hurricane situation for Trump - disgusting.
So Barry’s flaccid, eh? Figgers.
Fake president. Fake hurricane.
Barry channels his inner Gomer as Big Mike looks on....
Can you tell which is which?
Why is she bending at the knee....and with fear in her eyes?
In the Midwest we call these “thunderstorms”.
Your thunderstorms come with tidal surges that overtop levees and back up rivers?
Well, "yes" to overflowing levees. And we do get flash floods that back up rivers by piling trees and debris against bridges. We also get golf ball size hail and mudslides. We've had a couple of storms where local houses slid down the side of a hill.
In fairness, we are above sea level.
Ask him if he has nutrias.
It thought it was “Rain Event Barry”. These evirowackos have got me confused.
We lived through the eight years of a storm called Barry.
Barry hits with a thud. Just like Barry the embarrassment zerobowma.
And take away everything standing miles inland?
I remember that growing up in south Florida 60 some years ago they didn’t give names to storms unless they became hurricanes and the names were all feminine, Alice, Barbara, Carol etc. These days they start naming tropical depressions that have winds around 30 mph. I have my suspicions that the reason is somehow tied to the climate change idiots.
Not for many who are in the flood plain that is called “southern Louisiana”....MS took more damage from the floodgates Louisiana opened to minimize their own damage, but in the areas that flood, there’s nothing anticlimactic about it.
So like Barry himself, it’s anticlimactic because it’s just a tropical storm, but it does disproportionate damage for just a tropical storm, and the damage is felt far beyond the area directly in its path.
