“Every country has the government it deserves” - Joseph de Maistre

“My grand parents and my parents voted PPD (Popular Democratic Party), and so will I. If it was good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.”

“My grand parents and my parents voted PNP (New Progressive Party), and so will I. If it was good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.”

And there is the problem in a nutshell. Most of the citizens don’t know who the candidates are, what they stand for, what their history or background is. They just vote “red” (PPD) or “blue” (PNP), and facts and the island be dammed.

The island is NOT going to get it’s independence and it is NOT going to become a state. What it is, is an example of what can happen here if we allow politics as usual and the political dumbing down of citizens.

Possible solution: Appoint a Military Governor and cabinet for the island. The people (not all, but most) have proven unable to govern themselves.

The big problem for PR is that because of the Commonwealth Status, it’s too easy for the Productive Class to up and leave, leaving the rest behind to fend for themselves, this is not a sustainable outcome.

Even if you impeach the guy...won’t the next guy stepping up end up in some type of scandal as well?

So make an example of the current prez. Pour encourager les autres :-)

“There is no reason PR shouldn’t be the gem of the Caribbean.”

True! And a real shame.

But, they got the typical inbred, corrupt, rat governance typical for third-world islands.

PR has the exact same culture of corruption as any other latin american country. Give the place back to Spain. We won’t miss it a bit.

The United States and Puerto Rico need to go their separate ways. We’re an English speaking country. They’re a Spanish speaking island. Let them follow their own destiny. I wish them well, but there’s no good reason why we’re politically united.
