This argument would have far more weight if the people - such as the typical FReeper - who are labeled conservative were actually conservative. This is not the case, any more than the typical title of the typical Democrat-passed legislation honestly describes the intentions of its sponsors.Safires New Political Dictionary points out that the definition of liberal was changed - essentially inverted - in the 1920s. Before 1920, liberalism meant what is now called conservatism. And as such liberalism was American as apple pie. Since 1930, liberalism has been the L-word. Safire doesnt attribute the change to anyone - but conservatives of the time hated it, and journalists (whose true political perspective is not objectivity but socialism) had motive and opportunity.
Socialists are radical in their desires for more government, but are hostile to change - e.g., the mining and combustion of coal and hydrocarbons. Conservatives (true liberals) are hostile to change in the Constitution and often in laws - and believe in progress of, by, and for the American people. Including fracking, for example . . .
The BEST election night montage is the Young Turks going from elation to anger at Hillary. One viewer said that he watches it when he wants a good laugh. It is priceless. Available on youtube.
Makes you wonder if Hitler ever said that the Jews wee acting more like NAZIs everyday?
