It all started as..”the Community Mental Health Act of 1963 (CMHA) (also known as the Community Mental Health Centers Construction Act) (Public Law 88-164) was an act to provide Federal funding for community mental health centers. It led to considerable deinstitutionalization”.

In the 1980s it was decided by Congress that state mental hospitals were inhumane so they were all closed. There was debate about the consequences, however even back then the dems owned the press.

The problem with background checks is that they never catch the first time offender.

Hillbillies don’t count, We are ignorant subhumans to these city folks and they don’t care if the “one size fits all” laws endanger us us or not.

I have provided a service on a major cross country interstate all my life. I have dealt with the public from every demographic in the country and most foreign countries. And the insanity list is now endless. I could write a book about the insane people I have met and the insane ideologies I have encountered. 99 out of a 100 calls I go on I leave these when done shaking my head reconfirming to myself that the general mental state in this country is in very serious trouble.

They were born into the system, not put on the street. They have always been drugged up with Ritalin and Prozac)and been on the street (especially boys-ya know they can’t be rambunctious). This is not the 1970’s! :)

Exactly so. = During my military career, I was stationed (OR was on extended TDY) in OCONUS nations where lawful ownership of firearms was illegal or severely restricted.

In those places, ARSON, EXPLOSIVES & TOXINS are the main weapons of VIOLENT CRIME, TERROR & MASS MURDER.

So you favor waiting for a MENTAL SUBJECT to get caught NINE TIMES to put them away??

Personally, I favor reopening the old State mental hospitals & empowering local governments to temporarily lock-up people like “good ‘ole JimBob” to see if they are TOO DANGEROUS to themselves and/or other citizens to be “running around loose”.
(Obviously, such a system needs to be tightly controlled to prevent detention in mental hospitals from being abused.)

EXACTLY SO.
(My “home county” has about 3500 total residents & to the DIMocRATS, we are “just unimportant” & nothing more than, to quote Nancy Pelosi, “- - - - ignorant, uneducated rubes & country bumpkins who need not even be listened to by the ‘better class of citizens’.”)

[[[we have a very, very big mental health problem and Congress is working on various things]]]

I predict this facet of the issue will NEVER be addressed. The left wants this issue for gun control, nothing more.

Virtually every one of these lunatics had mental health issues with early warning signs that were never acted on, ignored or covered up.

This actually started with President Kennedy and the “Community Mental Health Act” of 1963

I have a very rural business and the law enforcement response time is over an hour. 5 times now in the last 40 years I was forced to defend the life and limb of my family and myself. We would have become murder victim statistics 5 times without the right to bear arms. Everything they do is based on city culture and mentality with total ignorance and disregard for rural cultures and challenges. It has all truly become a battle of cultures in every aspect.

Wow. And here I thought living in the rural country is nice and quiet. That’s crazy! Why is it so dangerous in your area?

UNDERSTOOD.= On my “personal night of terror”, when 4 drunken/drugged up thugs, 3 decades ago, decided to burn our farmhouse down (with me in it), it took the first county LE unit 27 minutes to arrive & that Deputy arrived that soon ONLY by chance, as he was “serving papers upon” a defendant in an unrelated civil case.

That 27 minutes seemed like 27 YEARS, btw.

Had I not had my 12 gauge double-barrel & my sisters 90# & “very protective” German Shepherd at the farm that night, I probably wouldn’t be here to write these lines.

Got it. I am assuming care for the mentally unwell is an area our founders expected the church to take the lead.

Especially at a business, the longer the response time for law enforcement the braver and more likely non-local criminals traveling through are to commit a crime. Who is going to stop them or catch them? This “you don’t need a gun just call a cop” does not at all apply in rural areas, we have no other option except to defend ourselves period.
