IMO Trump is pissed because there were probably behind the scenes discussions with the Danes who seemed receptive to the possibility. When it became public, the Danes feigned surprise and dismissed it as absurd. Trump responded by canceling the trip.

The Danes need to get a copy of Trump’s book “The Art of the Deal”.
Then they won’t be surprised any more.
A US acquisition of Greenland would be _great_ for US national morale—and Trump _can_ make it happen.

Apologizing is the dumbest thing you can do in U.S. politics. Especially if you’re a conservative and the mainstream media is against you, unlike with Democrats.

Greenland has requested a visit and suggests low balling the danes because they need to sell.

Yep.
Trump’s tweet was just a not-very-well disguised FU to the Danes.
And, as it turns out, fully deserved. “This has gone from a great opportunity for a strengthened dialogue between allies to a diplomatic crisis.
Yeah. Sure. A “diplomatic crisis” with a country we really couldn’t (and shouldn’t) care less about.

They will be superb _after_ they sell us Greenland.
Until then, not so superb. :-)

Did you read the comments by Danish politicians? Perhaps Trump simply didn’t want to go to Denmark and have to hear/read all of that up close and personal.

Apologize for canceling a trip, when nobody really knows the actual reason for the cancellation? The press can speculate, but whatever the reason, it’s President Trump’s decision to make.

That's pretty much Standard Operating Procedure for EU countries.

Precisely, Trump just didn’t come up with this Greenland sale out of the clear blue.
My suspicion is that there were some hint’s from The Danes that the Greenland sale would be up for discussion then Frederiksenthen comes out in public with the “absurd” comment and pi$$ed Trump off.
