Are black women’s lives worth $348,000?

This is the current debate in the California Assembly Appropriations Committee as they decide whether to support Senate Bill 464, the California Dignity in Pregnancy and Childbirth Act

In fact, a national 2019 study found that black women were about 8 percent more likely as white women to experience mistreatment and twice as likely to have calls for help ignored during childbirth.

If the black woman is calling the baby's father for help during childbirth this result is understandable.

Data and high-profile cases such as Serena Williams’ confirm that this disparity in maternal outcomes is not explained by income, education, access to prenatal care, individual behaviors or overall health. It is better explained by racism and racial bias.

Since everything appears to be rooted in Racism, from here on I will do everything possible to NOT patronize any business owned or operated by Non White people.

And they wonder why so many people are leaving the State

I don’t have to read the article to know that what ever program they are proposing is not going to cost just $348.000. Once a government program begins, it becomes immortal living off a diet of unending public funds.

The mentioning of Serena Williams was lost on me. Was there some form of racism involved in a negative maternal outcome for her or her baby?

Wouldn’t it have been helpful to this writer’s case to tell us what the Serena Williams outcome was, and why it bolsters these racial bias claims?

Williams’ was tossed out there for effect, nothing more or less.

I don’t see how poverty or lifestyle choices fail to be a major factor in negative outcomes, despite the claims of this second year medical student.

I am so sick of everything being blamed on a supposed racist boogyman.

I had that thought too as I read the commentary.

“Since everything appears to be rooted in Racism, from here on I will do everything possible to NOT patronize any business owned or operated by Non White people.”

And it bolsters the argument that separatism would be best for both races. If we don’t get along by virtue of our nature why continue to force the two races to live together? It’s like forcing cats and dogs to live in the same cage.

Get rid of all anti-discriminatory laws, allow true freedom of association and the races will separate naturally on their own.

The question, stated as it is, makes it clear that they think black women are the responsibility or even property of the State.

Are Democrats promoting slavery again?

As a white father I:

Got married

Was employed with job provided health insurance

Signed up for prenatal care

Help wife with healthy diet (no drugs or alcohol)

Attended the birth

Helped at home with new child

Limited family to two children due to financial and time realities

Well, it’s a good thing you have to pay taxes so that there is funding for others to avoid being so ‘restricted/practical’..

Reading the link in the article gives some information about that. Williams had suffered from pulmonary embolism and had discontinued her anticoagulants during pregnancy. She had a difficult birth, ending in a C-section. She soon had trouble breathing, and, according to her, had a hard time convincing the doctors that she had a pulmonary embolism. The doctors eventually found some small ones in her lungs and put her back on anticoagulants, which was dangerous because she had just had surgery. While Williams didn’t attribute the delaying of her diagnosis to racism and the race of the various doctors and nurses was not mentioned, the author of this article blames it on racism, of course.

California: Gavin Nobrain leading it to financial destruction. The state government will have no choice but to seize power to “fix” their problems. This seems to me to be the plan of most large cities in the US under Democratic control.
