My wife is Latina and of Native American descent. She is a far more dedicated patriot than many Americans born here. She will never lose her accent though, but I find it adorable and smoking hot, like her long black hair down to her tan hips. She knows what she left and she cherished what she has here. Our kids favor her looks but are completely Americanized. Anyway, yes, they can and many of the best conservative people I know on the planet are Latinos who came here to build a better life.
“One of the big problems is the US educational system”
Yes the leftist run schools are teaching anti-assimilation or a bizarro assimilation in to a socialist US.
Ive seen some Mex names in the High School sports section of the local paper in the past couple of years. Football, baseball and basketball.

You’re way behind the times. You need to catch up.
Anecdotally ... Hubs and I have several Hispanic co-workers who tell us almost every car ride to see Abuellita Y Abuello are crash courses in Spanish. Grandma and Grandpa don’t speak English and the kids barely speak Spanish. That said ... we are also told that a lot of Hispanic gang members have white moms and absent Hispanic dads, and don’t speak Spanish very well either. If someone in their life is connected enough to the kids to teach them Spanish and English they do better.
Caveat ... SIL teaches English as a Second Language at the local middle school. She has all kinds of stories.
I also had a Hispanic friend who said she’d rather listen to me trying to speak Spanish correctly than some of the kids who didn’t know it as well as they thought and mangled freely.
Right on. Thank you.
Depends....
My wife is 2nd generation Cuban and I’m half ‘Hispanic’ (well Basque to be honest as mom is from Bilbao).
Our kids know Spanish, but don’t speak it nor care to.
Most Mexicans who are fence jumpers or river crossing wets will not assimilate. Their children however, will, and I’m actually impressed on how well they are to be honest.
South Americans (Chileans, Colombians, Peruvians, Ecuadorians, Argentines) are very good at assimilating.
Central Americans are very poor for the most part, especially the ones with very low education. I’m impressed with Costa Ricans however.
Regardless though - the wall needs to be built for once and for all. This cycle of never ending immigration will destroy this country sooner than you realize.
I live in an area that is largely Hispanic... I know from when I started drawing them, that Pizza Patron is a business that only comes into neighborhoods that are 65% Latino and they take Pesos as legal tender... so somewhere north of 65%.
My LEGAL Hispanic neighbors have assimilated very well. 20 years ago, if my neighbor knocked on my door, he had his kids translating for him... Today he speaks better English than I do!
In the run up to 2016, I was doing some welding for him on one of his trailers and we got to talking... He said he supported Trump for President and I was shocked! I said well the news certainly would not have people believe that... He said that illegals are hurting him and his family much more than they do me and mine! He went on to say we came here to be Americans and raise our children in the land of the free... They are coming here to be Mexicans in America and collect their free stuff.
LOL — wow, you must live in a Special Place. Where I am, not a thing you just lectured us on is true.
From my own observations Hispanics that take the legal path to become citizens want to be citizens and assimilate very well.
Those that come here illegally? Most have no desire to be citizens; most have loyalty to their country and are here only to get what they can. Those that come here illegally want to put forth little to no effort to be here legally and expect it all to be handed to them on a silver platter.
Are you talking about legal immigrants?
There is a huge difference in attitude between legal immigrants and illegals.
I’m in the Bay Area and don’t see it.
The children speak English and Spanish
You live in Mexico?
There are enclaves of many people who don’t/feign having basic English skills.
A lot of good wisdom by the posters here. I have to add there are areas so dense with immigrants legal and illegal that they currently are enclaves of foreign culture. Liberal friends moved back from Miami said they were tired of being foreigners in their own country. The husband asks what the hell is “American coffee” as advertised in some storefronts.
My estimate is it takes the USA about 50 to 60 years to resolve big problems. Like the horrible massive housing projects they finally leveled. You will see this group better assimilated maybe around year 2050.
Oh it shouldn’t take 50 years that’s just a rather pathetic symptom of our culture. You need the current crop of misinformed liberals to die of old age, etc.
It’s pretty bad. My sister works in a school district which is now about 35% Hispanic, 10 years ago it was probably less than 10%. She’s at a High School and there’s kids there who have been supposedly getting ESL education since grade school and can’t even speak basic sentences in the present tense.
K
So, where are things changing.
I went to school in San Jose and my childhood peers all spoke English.
I lived on the East Side which has uhmmmm....a substantial immigrant population.
I have friends who recently went Doral, FL and found it difficult to get service without speaking Spanish.
Apparently, Venezuelan immigrants are pretty stuck up and refuse, at the malls to speak English.
Even with friends, who grew up fluent in Spanish but, Mexican Spanish.
The more of them that come, the less are compelled to assimilate.
As far as whiteness goes, it ran the gamut from light skin to very dark with kinky hair. Some looked straight up Aztec, lol
Large families. Saw some sporting clothing El Salvador, Honduras.
Oddly enough, it isnt Hispanics that are doing the shootings or stabbings, its the Afro Americans. Bar fights are white people.
Absolutely. I grew up in NYC when everything was geared to encouraging immigrants to become part of things (and learn English). Every morning the principal would come on the speaker system and give a challenge, which was an idiomatic phrase or saying that students could explain. If you won, didnt get much except praise the next day but that was good!
I remember answering March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, because my birthday is in March and Im a native speaker of English. But all of the kids would try to answer the question and the teachers (mostly 2nd generation immigrant Irish or Jewish) helped them.
We had Spanish speakers from different countries,Slavs from different countries, Southern blacks who were barely intelligible to the rest of us, and children who were from families that basically spoke Yiddish...and a few freaks like me who were English speakers but didnt go to Catholic school because one parent wasnt Catholic. But we all learned English and AMerican history because that was a priority,
I remember being in a pageant about the Constitution...but now probably most of the school population, including the teachers, barely know what this is or when it happened.
