There are those that claim just because it’s legal that they can and will do it as it’s a 2nd A right. I fully agree with them. But I also agree with you in that it’s not very smart. It’s inviting trouble and unwarranted attention. Which is why I suspect this guy did it, to get attention. If that’s not the case, then like you said, “not very smart”.
Carrying concealed keeps one from getting unwanted attention while maintaining an element of surprise for a potential dangerous attacker.

I am a fan of concealed carry because I’m not into confrontation. However if open carry is legal and a person wants to do it I am also a fan. If enough people do it , then seeing a gun won’t be a big deal. When you see someone in uniform open carrying do you get worried? I don’t get worried when I see someone openly carrying unless it’s an AK-47 with a 30 round magazine. Then my Spidey Senses are alert.
It is a political and educational action. Just maybe, if open carry was more common, fewer people would sh*t their pants at the sight. It is the same kind of "political theater" that the left indulges in oh-so-frequently.
Yes, concealed carry is better from a tactical standpoint, but this isn't about tactics...it's about politics.
